The Gospel according to Mark
by
J.W.Weeda
Introduction
This is a verse by verse study of the book of Mark
The one who wrote down this book about the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ is Mark. He was also called John. His official name is John Mark. He was the son of the sister of Barnabas. He described the Lord Jesus Christ as the Servant of God the Father.
Chapter 1
Mark 1 verse 1: The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
Verse 1: The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. Gospel means Good News, glad tidings. The whole book is the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ when He was on earth till the crucifixion and the resurrection of the Lord and after He was risen and told His disciples what to do after He would be not with them but with His Father in heaven on the right hand of the Father.
Mark 1 verse 2: As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Verse 2: Maleachi spoke about this in Maleachi 3 verse 1. We read there : Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and theLord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts. The prophet Maleachi spoke about John the Baptist. John the Baptist was God's messenger and send to prepare Christ's way. In Matthew 11 verse 10 we read: For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. In Isaiah 40 verse 3 we read: The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of theLord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. John was the first in the four gospels who brought the Good News to the people. He was the one in the wilderness and crieth to the people of Israel. They had to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins.
Mark 1 verse 3: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Verse 3: In John 1 verse 23 we read:He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. This was John the Baptist!
Mark 1 verse 4: John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Verse 4: John baptized people in the wilderness. He preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Israel must repent to the Lord because they had turned away from God! That's why John the Baptist preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Mark 1 verse 5: And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
Verse 5: Think about this verse! All the inhabitans of the land of Judaea and they of Jerusalem came to John. Jewish people and were baptized of him in the river of Jordan. John the Baptizer baptized them all! He didn't baptize by immersion, that was impossible! So much people to immerse! It was sprinkling persons what we read also in the Old Testament. They were baptized and confessed their sins. They made known their sins. People felt quilty and repented to confess their sins and be baptized. It was belief and works: that was the Gospel which John the Baptist preached.
Mark 1 verse 6: And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
Verse 6: This is how John was dressed like this: camel's hair and a girdle of a skin upon his hips. He ate locusts and wild honey. Wild honey was very healthy and in locusts there is a lot of egg white. A good meat substitute
Mark 1 verse 7: And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
Verse 7: John the Baptist preached this: One came after him Who is stronger or mightier than me. I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose His shoes. In Matthew 3 verse 11 we read this: I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Mark 1 verse 8: I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Verse 8: Here Mark mentioned only that the Lord Jesus Christ shall baptize the people with the Holy Ghost and he mentioned not with fire. Many of these people followed later the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 1 verse 9: And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
Verse 9: In the days John the Baptist preached unto the folk Israel that they had to repent and be baptized the Lord Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and He was baptized of John in Jordan. Why was the Lord Jesus Christ baptized? He was no sinner like men who were sinners? Ah it was to be one with the folk Israel. We have read in Matthew 3 verse 13, 14 and 15 this: Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. It was to fulfil all righteousness, to be one with Israel. He had to fulfil all righteousness and that is the answer why He did this. He had to undergo this. He, the Lord Jesus Christ had to humble Himself before God the Father, to obey His Father and be baptized by John. He was/is without sin yet He was washed as if He had been polluted but wasn't.
Mark 1 verse 10: And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him:
Verse 10: When the Lord came out of the water John the Baptist saw the heavens were opened. He saw the Spirit like a dove descending upon the Lord Jesus Christ. In John 1 verse 32 and 33 we read:And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon Him. And I knew Him not: but He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. This was a sign for John the Baptist and he spoke this to the people what he had seen. It was the glory of God which John saw.
Mark 1 verse 11: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Verse 11: After that a voic from God the Father came from heaven and said: Thou art my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased. What does this mean? The word beloved not only declares affection but it also carries the meaning of the only One. The Father's announcement from heaven reminds us of Psalm 2 verse 7:I will declare the decree: theLord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Mark wrote this book not about just any Jewish servant. No he wrote this book about the very Son of God Who came from heaven to die for the sins of the world.
Mark 1 verse 12: And immediately the spirit driveth Him into the wilderness.
Verse 12: The Spirit that descended upon Him like a dove led Him into the wilderness, the desert. The evil spirits were busy with the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ Himself was tempted in the desert. This is not only to teach us, also to driect us whither to go for succour when we are tempted.
Mark 1 verse 13: And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto Him.
Verse 13: The Lord Jesus Christ was 40 days in the wilderness, in the desert. Can you imagine, 40 days! I was for half a week in my life in the desert. 40 days that is a long time!! He could endure this because He is God Himself. The desert can be very hot during the day. At night it becomes cold outside in the desert. The Lord Jesus Christ was there because He was tempted of satan. He was there also with the wild beasts and the angels, the good spirits ministered unto Him so they were busy about Him.
Mark 1 verse 14: Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
Verse 14: Mark doesn't mention what exactly happened in the desert when our Lord was tempted by satan. This we can read in Matthew chapter 4 verses 1 till 12. After this John the Baptist was put in prison. Why was he in prison? The reason we can read in Mark 6 verses 16 and 17. In Matthew 14 verse 3 and 4 we read: For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife. For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. The Lord Jesus Christ came into Galilee and preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. This is a different Gospel than the Gospel of the Grace of God Acts 20:24 for today for us as members of the Body of Christ. The Gospel of the Kingdom was for Israel.
Mark 1 verse 15: And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Verse 15: Christ was preaching there in Galilee and gives the people in Galilee notice of it namely the time prefixed is now at hand. The time was ripe before the Kingdom of God would come to earth. What must the folk do? Repent and believe the Gospel. By repentance Israel must lament and forsake their sins. By faith under this Dispensation of Grace we as members of the Body of Christ now, receive the forgiveness of sins.
Mark 1 verse 16: Now as He walked by the sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Verse 16: The Lord Jesus Christ walked by the sea of Galilee. A couple of years ago my wife and me were in Israel and we stayed at the sea of Galilee 2 days. What a beautiful and quiet area and when you see the small beaches near the sea there you think immediately about our Lord Jesus Christ that He walked or stood by the sea of Galilee 2000 years ago!! The Lord saw Simon and Andrew his brother. They were fishermen and casted the net into the sea.
Mark 1 verse 17: And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Verse 17: And the Lord after seeing these brothers who were fishermen said to them: Come ye after me and I will make you to become fishers of men. With other words your work as fisherman you can leave and follow Me and I will make you that you reach people with the Gospel of the Kingdom.
Mark 1 verse 18: And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
Verse 18: Immediately Peter and Andrew forsook their nets. They stopped with fishing and followed Him litteraly. The call of the Lord to them was very strong or intense. They couldn't refuse His call. It was such a haunting voice!
Mark 1 verse 19: And when He had gone a little farther thence, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
Verse 19: The Lord walked a little bit further by the sea of Galilee and He saw James and his brother John who were the sons of Zebedee. They too were fishermen and were busy in the ship to make their nets.
Mark 1 verse 20: And straightway He called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
Verse 20: The Lord immediately called the two sons of Zebedee James and John and they left their father in the ship with all the servants who were hired by their father and went litteraly after Him. His appearance must have been something special because the persons He called they immediately followed Him litteraly.
Mark 1 verse 21: And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
Verse 21: The Lord Jesus Christ and His disciples went into Capernaum. On the Sabbath day they entered the synagogue of the Jews and He taught the people there in the synagogue. He taught them God's Word and everyone in that place was listening to Him.
Mark 1 verse 22: And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
Verse 22: The people who were gathered in the synagogue and listened to Him were amazed at His doctrine. Why? He taught them as one who had authority and not what the scribes them learned and how they learned the people. They came with the Lord and gave the people a lot of rules to keep them and this came across as authoritarian.
Mark 1 verse 23: And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out
Verse 23: In the synagogue was a man who was possessed from the devil. The Scripture says here unclean spirit. This man cried out in the synagogue. Because of that he got all the attention of those who were there. In Luke 4 verse 33 we read the same verse: And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice. In the time when our Lord Jesus Christ was on earth you had a lot of people who were demon possessed or had a spiirt of an unclean devil.
Mark 1 verse 24: Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
Verse 24: The devil was speaking through this man: let us alone, let us be in this man. What have we to do with thee Jesus of Nazareth. You came to destroy us. The devil himself who was in that man knew exactly who the Lord Jesus Christ was and spoke of Him as the Holy One of God. He didn't believe in Him but acknowledged Him!
Mark 1 verse 25: And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
Verse 25: The Lord Jesus Christ reproved the unclean spirit and said to him: stop speaking to me, be silent and come out of this man. We see in the next verse(s) this happen.
Mark 1 verse 26: And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
Verse 26: The unclean spirit ripped the man and after this the spirit cried with a loud voice and came out of that man. Only the Lord could do such a wonder, miracle. He had/has the power to do that because He was and is God Himself. This is also what the people wondered. We read that in the next verse.
Mark 1 verse 27: And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
Verse 27: The Jewish people in the synagogue saw everything He did and were astonished and asked themselves this: what is this and the new doctrine He teached us? And with what authority He commandeth these unclean spirits that they obeyed Him. They had never seen such a miracle before and heard never this doctrine He teached the people.
Mark 1 verse 28: And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about
Galilee.
Verse 28: Per direct His fame (alle the miracles He did and what He told the people) became known in the region of Galilee. This was a sort word of mouth. Everyone in that area came to know this very fast.
Mark 1 verse 29: And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
Verse 29: After this healing in the synagogue in Carpernaum The Lord with His 4 disciples who followed Him went out of the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew his brother. Also James and John entered the house. Peter had not only a house but was also married. We read further on what happened in the house of him.
Mark 1 verse 30: But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
Verse 30: Peter's mother in law was there in the house but she lay sick of a fever. And Peter and Andrew told the Lord that she was ill of fever, very serious. Fever in general could be very bad and deadly.
Mark 1 verse 31: And He came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
Verse 31 The Lord Jesus Christ saw her lying and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Immediately the fever was gone because the fever left her. She was healed and strengthened. She, the mother in law of Peter, was so glad and able to serve the Lord and the disciples. Serving was most of the time for a woman in a house to give people to drink, to eat. Caring for the inner man.
Mark 1 verse 32: And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils
Verse 32: It's striking that people had heard a lot of Him and knew that the Lord Jesus Christ was in the house of Peter and that He could do a lot of miracles and healing. So they brought to Him all that had diseases and them that were possessed with devils. They knew because of the synagogue they had seen that He could casting out devils.
Mark 1 verse 33: And all the city was gathered together at the door.
Verse 33: This was so amazing: the whole city of Capernaum was gathered together at the door of the house of Simon. Everyone of the city was there because of the Lord Jesus Christ Who could do healing, casting out devils, miracles. They wanted to see more. The Jews desired always signs otherwise they didn't believe. We see in the next verse what happened.
Mark 1 verse 34: And He healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew Him.
Verse 34: The Lord Jesus Christ healed many persons who were sick with different diseases. He cast out many devils. He let not the devils to speak to Him because they knew Him. Why not? Because He wanted not from these devils witnesses.
Mark 1 verse 35: And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Verse 35: In the morning after this healings the Lord went out and departed to a quiet place and there He prayed to His Father. Secret prayer must be made secretly. The time the Lord prayed was in the morning after the Sabbaths day. It was for Him important to be alone with His Father and talking to Him.
Mark 1 verse 36: And Simon and they that were with him followed after Him.
Verse 36: Simon and the other disciples saw He had departed them and they followed the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 1 verse 37: And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
Verse 37: Simon and the other disciples found Him and said to Him this: all men seek for thee. In fact He was much wanted. They were proud that their Master was become so populair already and would Him appear n public because it was their own city they came from. What was the answer of the Lord to this?
Mark 1 verse 38: And He said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
Verse 38: The Lord answered them: Let us go into the next towns that I may preach also there because that is the purpose of My coming. In the next verses we read that they did this.
Mark 1 verse 39: And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.
Verse 39: All Galilee the Lord Jesus Christ came, not only Capernaum. He preached in all Galilee in the synagogues of the Jewish people and cast out devils. A lot of people were possessed with devils in that time. The Lord hath the power to cast them out of persons. This let you see that God in Christ has all power and has also the power over satan and his angels.
Mark 1 verse 40: And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Verse 40: A man who was a leper came to the Lord Jesus Christ and begged Him and kneeled down to Him. He acknowledged that the Lord Jesus Christ was above him and could make him better. He said to Him thou canst make me clean. With a great humility he came to the Lord. He had a firm belief in the power of the Lord that He could heal him.
Mark 1 verse 41: And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
Verse 41: Here we see the Lord His humanity and divinity at the same time. He moved with compassion. What is compassion? This is to have mercy, pity. This is what the Lord Jesus Christ had for this man. He put forth His hand and touched the man and saith unto the leper: I will be thou clean. The Lord healed the man who was a leper.
Mark 1 verse 42: And as soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
Verse 42 Soon after the Lord said I will be thou clean the leprosy departerd from the man who had this and he was clean from it. He was healed and that had done the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 1 verse 43: And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
Verse 43: The Lord was very strict and forbade the man not to say someone that he was healed by the Lord Jesus Christ. Why was this? Answer that would much increase the crowd that followed the Lord Jesus Christ which it was too great already. He would do it with as little noise as might be.
Mark 1 verse 44: And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Verse 44: The Lord gave the healed instructions and commandments what to do next. He said unto Him. Don't tell anybody that you are healed by Me but go thy way. Show yourself to the priest and offer for your healing the things which Moses commanded and this is for a testimony for them. Did this man obeyed these instructions of our Lord? The answer is no because we read in the next verse this:
Mark 1 verse 45: But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
Verse 45: The healed man didn't obey the words of the Lord and published it everywhere where he came that the Lord had healed him so that the Lord couldn't enter anymore a city in Galilee. He went to desert places and there they came to Him from every place.

Mark chapter 2
Mark 2 verse 1: And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
Verse 1: After some days the Lord Jesus Christ was again in Capernaum and the people of Capernaum came to know that He was in a house.
Mark 2 verse 2: And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
Verse 2: Near the house there were a lot of people, so much that there was not enoughroom to receive them all in the house and He preached the Word of God to them all namely the Gospel of the Kingdom.
Mark 2 verse 3: And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
Verse 3: There came 4 men and carying one person laying on a sort kind of bed. That person was paralyzed and sick.
Mark 2 verse 4: And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
Verze 4: These 4 man with the bed and laying on the bed the man with the palsy couldn't reach Him because of the crowd before the house. Then they saw that the roof of the house whereunder the Lord spoke to the people. They uncovered the roof and broke it up. After that they let down the bed wherein the sick man of the palsy was laying on. They believe really that He, the Lord could heal this man probably their friend who was sick.
Mark 2 verse 5: When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
Verse 5: The Lord saw their faith they had in Him that He could heal the man laying on the bed sick of the palsy. He said to this man: son, thy sins be forgiven. He was the only One Who could do this: to forgive sins because He was and is God Himself.
Mark 2 verse 6: But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
Verse 6: Among the people who were certain scribes, in the house who were listening to the Lord what He said to this sick of the palsy man laying on the bed, and reasoned in their hearts. In the next verse we read what they thought.
Mark 2 verse 7: Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
Verse 7: These scribes falsely accused the Lord Jesus Christ for blashemy because He had said that this man who was sick his sins were forgiven. They didn't believe in Him so they didn't understand that the Lord Jesus Christ was God Himself. They said who can forgive sins but God only? In the next verses you will read what will happen after this reasoning.
Mark 2 verse 8: And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
Verse 8: The Lord knew exactly what these scribes reasoned in their own spirits, in themselves! After this He asked them this: why reason ye these things that I blasheme in your hearts? Probably they didn't know who He was and is. God knows every thinking of men. In Psalm 139 verse 1 and 2 we read this: Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
Mark 2 verse 9: Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
Verse 9: After that the Lord said to them what is easier thy sins be forgiven or to say arise and take up thy bed and walk? They didn't know what to answer this queston from the Lord. It was not only healing from sickness, the Lord could also forgive sins because He was and is God Himself.
Mark 2 verse 10: But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
Verse 10: That they may know. The they are the scribes, the people who watched and heard what He said to the one who was sick of the palsy. That they from that moment may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins. He, the Lord Jesus Christ was and is God Himself.
Mark 2 verse 11: I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
Verse 11: Then the Lord said to the sick person this: Arise and take up thy bed and go thy way into thine own house. What happened we read in the next verse.
Mark 2 verse 12: And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
Verse 12: Directly after this saying of the Lord the man arose and took up his bed and went forth before the people. The people were dismayed because never they had seen this before. This was unique in their thinking and seeing.
Mark 2 verse 13: And He went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
Verse 13: After the healing of the sick man and forgiving his sins the Lord Jesus Christ went again to the sea side. All the mutitude of men came to Him and the Lord learned them God's Word, the Gospel of the Kingdom.
Mark 2 verse 14: And as He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed Him.
Verse 14: He passed the sea side probably and there He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus. Levi was sitting at the receipt of custom because he was a publican. Now publicans were not loved by the people of Israel. We shall study this in the next verses. The Lord said to Levi this: Follow me (literal). Levi arose and followed the Lord Jesus Christ literal.
Mark 2 verse 15: And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
Verse 15: The Lord Jesus Christ sat in the house of Levi, the son of Alphaeus and there were in the same house a lot of publicans and sinner and they sat together with Him and His disciples. There were many who followed the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 2 verse 16: And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
Verse 16: The scribes and Pharisees saw the Lord Jesus Christ sit together with the publicans and sinners and eat with them in the house of Levi. And these scribes and Pharisees said to His disciples this: how is it that He eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? How is that possible? They wondered about this. These scribes and Pharisees acoording to the law and their own laws never sitted together with publicans and sinners.
Mark 2 verse 17: When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Verse 17: The Lord Jesus Christ heard the words of the scribes and pharisees and said to them this: persons that are whole (righteous) have no need of the physician but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous ones but sinners to repentance according the Gospel of the Kingdom He preached to them.
Mark 2 verse 18: And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
Verse 18: After this the disciples of John the Baptist and also Pharisees were used to fast and found that strange that the disciples of the Lord didn't fast. So they asked the Lord why His disciples did not fast.
Mark 2 verse 19: And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
Verse 19: The answer in the form of a question of the Lord Jesus Christ is this: can the children of the bridechamber fast while the bridegroom is with them? Then immediately: as long they have the bridegroom (Himself) with them they cannot fast.
Mark 2 verse 20: But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
Verse 20: And He said this that the days will come when the bridegroom will be away or taken away from them (referring to Himself) then the children of the bridechamber, the disciples of Him , shall fast in the days when He is not with them.
Mark 2 verse 21: No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
Verse 21: This similarity is often explained that the doctrine which the Lord told the people, the doctine of the Kingdom or the Gospel of the Kingdom the new piece is and also the new wine. The doctrine of the Pharisees was a made up of religious laws and this stands for the old wine here and the old garment. The Lord Jesus Christ preached something new, a new Gospel for the people of Israel.
Mark 2 verse 22: And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
Verse 22: This verse corresponds with verse 21 and this verse has the same meaning. New wine is the Gospel of the Kingdom which the Lord preached to Israel and the old bottle is the old religion under which the Pharisees and scribes lived in the time the Lord preached in Israel during His earthly ministry.
Mark 2 verse 23: And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
Verse 23: The Lord went through the corn fields with His disciples and this was on the Sabbath day. The disciples began to pluck the ears of corn.
Mark 2 verse 24: And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
Verse 24: The Pharisees saw what the disciples did on the Sabbath day and in their eyes this was not good, it was forbidden to do this on this day. So they asked Him this: why do your disciples eat the ears of corn on the Sabbath day?
Mark 2 verse 25: And He said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
Verse 25: The Lord asked them this. He had always a answer to their questions. Now He said to them: have ye never read what David did. He took the example of David the king of Israel who was hungry and also the ones who were with him. Did they know it, these Pharisees. Probably not because the Lord asked them this.
Mark 2 verse 26: How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
Verse 26: The Lord told them this example of David who went into the house of God, the temple in the days of Abiathar the hight priest and eat of the shewbread. That was forbidden because this bread was for the priest and he gave this bread also to the ones who were with him.
Mark 2 verse 27: And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
Verse 27: The Sabbath day was instituted by God to give man a day of rest and not the other way around. That a human being is not slave of strict Sabbaths rules.
Mark 2 verse 28: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Verse 28: What does this mean? That the Son of man the authority has and He determines what is permitted to be done on that day. Under the Dispensation of Grace whereunder we as members of the Body of Christ live we have no Sabbath's day. In Colossians 2 verses 16 and 17 we read this: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. We as members of the Body of Christ are in Him and we have peace with Him. We can rest in the finished work of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, what He had done for us.

Mark Chapter 3
Mark 3 verse 1: And He entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.
Verse 1: The Lord came again into the synagogue of the Jews. In the synagogue was a man who had a fade hand. The hand was misformed or lame.
Mark 3 verse 2: And they watched Him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse Him.
Verse 2: The Pharisees were also in the synagogue and watched Him and they asked themselves should the Lord Jesus Christ heal this man on the sabbath day because then we can accuse Him. Why they did this? Because they hated Him and would not believe in Him. They would kill Him. In their eyes He was a blashemer and a lyer.
Mark 3 verse 3: And He saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
Verse 3: The Lord commanded the man with the withere hand and said to him: stand forth! So the man did what the Lord commanded him to do.
Mark 3 verse 4: And He saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
Verse 4: Then the Lord Jesus Christ said to them. Who are them? All the people who were there in the synagogue inclusive these Pharisees. The Lord knew their thoughts and plans that they would accuse Him on the Sabbath day so He comes with this saying: it is lawful to do good on the sabbath day or to do evil , to save a man's life or to kill? All of them held their peace because they did not to answer Him. What a strong words brothers and sisters if you read this verse!
Mark 3 verse 5: And when He had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
Verse 5: After this saying the Lord looked round about on them with anger and specially these Pharisees and was also grieved for the hardness of their hearts. Then He said to the man with the whitered hand: stretch forth thine hand. The man obeyed and stretched his hand out and his hand was from that moment restored and whole as the other hand. He was healed! This was really a miracle!
Mark 3 verse 6: And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.
Verse 6: The Pharisees then left the synagogue immediately and directly they took counsel with the Herodians against the Lord Jesus Christ how they could destroy or kill Him. Who were the Herodians? The Herodians were a Jewish political group in the New Testament who supported the Herodian dynasty often aligning with Roman rule, and are mentioned for conspiring with the Pharisees against the Lord Jesus Christ how to destroy Him.
Mark 3 verse 7: But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,
Verse 7: The Lord went with His disciples to the sea. A great multitude from Galilee followed Him and also a lot of people from Judaea. In response to the united opposition the Lord simply withdrew Himself from there but couldn't prevent the great crowds of men who followed Him. The crowd of men was dangerous because they were not spiritually motivated and the authorities could accuse Him of leading a popular revolt against the Romans.
Mark 3 verse 8: And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.
Verse 8: There were people from Jerusalem, there were people from Idumaea, from beyond Jordan, from Tyre and Sidon (Lebanon) a lot of people. They all heard what great things He did and came unto Him because they wanted also to see miracles and signs like healings, but did they really want to believe in Him?
Mark 3 verse 9: And He spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on Him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
Verse 9: The Lord spoke to His disciples that the small ship should wait on Him. This was because of the multitude of people who wanted to see Him because of the great things He did. To prevent the multitude of men from crowding/crushing Him. In the ship He was more safe.
Mark 3 verse 10: For He had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon Him for to touch Him, as many as had plagues.
Verse 10: The Lord Jesus Christ had healed many people. The people pressed upon Him. to touch Him as many as had plagues. Diseases are here plagues. Most of the people had faith to be healed. Everyone there who was sick had the desire to be healed by Him.
Mark 3 verse 11: And unclean spirits, when they saw Him, fell down before Him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.
Verse 11: The unclean spirits who were in persons and possessed persons. They could see because they were spirits and when they saw the Lord Jesus Christ they fell down before Him. And it's remarkable what they say that moment: Thou are the Son of God. They agreed that He was and is the Son of God! They acknowledge that He is the Son of God.
Mark 3 verse 12: And He straitly charged them that they should not make him known.
Verse 12: The Lord Jesus Christ commanded them that they should not make Him known in the whole land. Why was this? Because to much people should come to Him to be healed and see miracles He did. Already there were to much people who followed Him literal.
Mark 3 verse 13: And He goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto Him whom He would: and they came unto Him.
Verse 13: No matter where the Lord Jesus Christ went, God's Servant, the Lord, was thronged by excited crowds. What the Lord did was this to withdraw Himself from the crowds and began to minister especially to His disciples. So He went up into a mountain and called unto Him whom He would. These disciples came to Him.
Mark 3 verse 14: And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach,
Verse 14: The Lord Jesus Christ appointed twelve disciples/apostles. Why He choose 12 apostles? Because later in the Kingdom when the Lord would reign as King of kings over Israel they will reign with Him over the 12 tribes of Israel. In Matthew 19 verse 28 we read this: And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. So the Lord send them that was the purpose to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom.
Mark 3 verse 15: And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
Verse 15: The Lord Jesus Christ gave only these 12 disciples/apostles the power to heal the sick people and to cast out devils! There were a lot of people who were sick and there were also a lot of persons who were possessed of devils. Why was this in the time of the Lord when He was on earth? As a nation Israel disobeyed God and God had warned them if they didn't obey Him. In Leviticus 26 verse 14 we read this: But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments. All misery will come upon Israel if they didn't obey God and this happened so that we see that when the Lord was on earth in His ministry a lot of people were sick. In the coming Kingdom for the folk Israel there would be no sickness nor that people would be possessed by demons.
Mark 3 verse 16: And Simon He surnamed Peter;
Verse 16: Simon the first disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Lord called him Peter, that was his surname.
Mark 3 vers 17: And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
Verse 17: The sons of Zebedee were James and John. These men became the most important disciples of the Lord: Peter, James and John. Their surnames were Boanerges which means the sons of thunder.
Mark 3 verse 18: And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,
Verse 18: Then followed Andrew, Philip, Bartholomev, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Canaanite.
Mark 3 verse 19: And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.
Verse 19: The last man the Lord choose was Judas Iscariot who would betray Him. This was all in the plan of God that one of His disciples would betray the Lord Jesus Christ. It has to be this way!
Mark 3 verse 20: And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
Verse 20: A lot of people came together in a hous where He and His disciples were and hindered them to eat bread. They pressed on Him and His disciples. This was no reason to close His doors for them but He welcomed them.
Mark 3 verse 21: And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
Verse 21: People who knew Him (friends of Him) heard that the house where He was was overcrowded went out to hold Him in the house. They couldn't believe that He had welcomed all those people and said He is beside Himself.
Mark 3 verse 22: And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
Verse 22: The scribes who were from Jerusalem and came to see Him said of Him that He had Beelzebub and that He by the prince of the devils casteth out devils. They insinuated that He had Beelzebub and that He cast out.
Mark 3 verse 23: And He called them unto Him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
Verse 23: The Lord heard what those scribes from Jerusalem said from Him. He called them unto Him and asked them this: How can satan cast out satan? This is impossible. He spoke in parables after this saying of the to them.
Mark 3 verse 24: And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
Verse 24: Further on He said to them if a kingdom is divided against itself that kingdom cannot stand. Cannot exist.
Mark 3 verse 25: And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
Verse 25: The same the Lord said to them from a house: if a house is divided against itself that house cannot stand or exist.
Mark 3 verse 26: And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Verse 26: If satan is against himself and he is divided he cannot exist but he had an end. It was plain taht the doctrine of Christ made war upon the Devil's kingdom, and had a direct tendency to break his power. It was as plain that the casting of him out of the bodies of persons confirmed that doctrine.
Mark 3 verse 27: No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
Verse 27: The Lord continued here in this verse. Christ being engaged in ware with satan will attack his forces wherever He meets them. whether in the bodies or souls of people. It is to enter the strong man's house and to spoil his goods. For this you have to bind the strong man.
Mark 3 verse 28: Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
Verse 28: For sure or surely the Lord said to these scribes this: all sins shall be forgiven and all blasphemies like cursing by which they shall curse it shall be forgiven. This on ground of the dying on the cross by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 3 verse 29: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
Verse 29: But the one who shall blaspheme or curse against the Holy Ghost, the sin against the Holy Spirit of God shall not be forgiven and those who do this shall be in danger of eternal punishment of God. We know from the Scriptures in Act 7 with the stoning of Stephen this happened when Israel stoned him.
Mark 3 verse 30: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Verse 30: The scribes said that the Lord Jesus Christ had an unclean spirit Beelzebub. That's why he talked to them in parables.
Mark 3 verse 31: There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
Verse 31: His mother and half brothers included James and Jude came and from a distance because they stood outside and asked Him to come to them.
Mark 3 verse 32: And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
Verse 32: A lot of people were sitting around Him and said to Him this: Your brothers and mother are outside and are looking for Thee. With other words why are You not going to them? This was a good question. The Lord knew their hearts because He was and is God Himself.
Mark 3 verse 33: And He answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
Verse 33: He answered those people and had a question for them: Who is my mother or my brethren? His brothers didn't believe in Him. Much later after His dying on the cross, burying and resurrection they became to believe in Him. Could they answer Him. I think not because He continued in speaking to them.
Mark 3 verse 34: And He looked round about on them which sat about Him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
Verse 34: The Lord Jesus Christ looked around Him and saw all the people who were sitting there and then He said this behold my mother and my brethren. Special words from the Lord Jesus Christ !
Mark 3 verse 35: For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Verse 35: Then the Lord Jesus Christ said this: the one who will do the will of God is my brother, sister and mother. Otherwise not! With this verse we have the end of this chapter.

Mark Chapter 4
Mark 4 verse 1: And He began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto Him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
Verse 1: The Lord began to teach by the sea side. There were a lot of people who were there and listened to His preaching/teaching. Because of the multitude of people He entered into a ship and was on the sea. From this ship He was teaching them. The people were on the beach near the sea.
Mark 4 verse 2: And He taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in His doctrine,
Verse 2: In the way of teaching the multitude of people the Lord used parables which would tempt them to hear for people love to be spoken to in their own language, and careless hearers will catch at a plain comparison borrowed from common things.
Mark 4 verse 3: Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:
Verse 3: The Lord spoke this parable about the sower to the great multitude. He began with a sower went out to sow.
Mark 4 verse 4: And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
Verse 4: It happened when he sowed that some sow fell by the way side. The birds in the air saw the sow and came to it and at it up. Every sow was eaten by the birds.
Mark 4 verse 5: And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
Verse 5: Some sow fell on the ground full of stones. In this ground there was not much earth or ground. Soon this sow sprang up because it rooted not in the earth.
Mark 4 verse 6: But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
Verse 6: The sun became to shine and when the sun shined the sow was scorched. It was burnt because the sow had not root and it became dead.
Mark 4 verse 7: And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
Verse 7: Some sow fell between the thorns. The thorns grew up and destroyed the seed/sow. The seed/sow among the thorns bear no fruit.
Mark 4 verse 8: And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
Verse 8: And some sow or seed fell on good ground. In this ground the sow could grow and had fruit and brought forth thirty, sixty and some hundred. This was the best ground the sow could grow. Later in this chapter the Lord explained this parable to His disciples.
Mark 4 verse 9: And He said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Verse 9: The Lord spoke in parables. The unbelieving Israel couldn't understand His words. This is also a general truth. In I Corinthians 2 verse 14 we read this: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Mark 4 verse 10: And when He was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
Verse 10: When the multitude of men disappeared the Lord Jesus Christ was alone and then they that were close to Him and His twelve disciples began to ask Him about the parable. They wanted to know the truth about this parable. They knew He could explain to them this parable.
Mark 4 verse 11: And He said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
Verse 11: The Lord answered them and said this: to you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God which would be established on earth. This parable is to compare the kingdom with something. The other people, the great multitude of Jewish people who are without, unbelievers I speak to them in parables. With other words they will not know it but you can know it as followers of Me the Lord said to them.
Mark 4 verse 12: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Verse 12: In this verse the Lord is speaking about the multitude who was listening to His parables. They saw but not recognize it. They heard but didn't understand it. If they converted their sins should be forgiven them but they never converted to God.
Mark 4 verse 13: And He said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
Verse 13: Whom who were with Him and asked a explenation from the parable didn't know this parable and that's why He asked them know ye not this parable and how can you know all the parables I speak?
Mark 4 verse 14: The sower soweth the word.
Verse 14: The Lord Jesus Christ began to explain to them this: the sower soweth the Word of God. This is the one who tell the people the Word of God.
Mark 4 verse 15: And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
Verse 15: The Word is brought by the sower and there are persons who stand by the way side. The Word is sown. They heard the Word of God and then satan cometh straigth away and take the Word which was sown in their hearts. Satan is the biggest enemy of God who is a man killer from the beginning and want to destroy all the things of God. He knows he is defeated but does everything possible to withhold the word of God from people. And that is he doing also under this Dispensation of Grace whereunder we live as believers in Christ.
Mark 4 verse 16: And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
Verse 16: The Lord goes on to explain this: many persons hear the Word of God, the Gospel of the Kingdom and are affected with it. The motions of soul they have, answerable to what they hear but are a mere flash like the crackling of thorns under a pot. They receive the Word of God with gladness and they came to nothing.
Mark 4 verse 17: And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
Verse 17: The Word of God has no root in them. It abide for a while and then they forget when affliction or persecution comes straigth way they are disturbed.
Mark 4 verse 18: And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word
Verse 18: People who are under the thorns who hear the Word of God but then in the next verse something happened!
Mark 4 verse 19: And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Verse 19: But said the Lord the worries of this life, thedeceitfulness of wealthand thedesires for other thingscome in and strangle the word of God and make it unfruitful. The Word of God will not penetrate into the hearts of people.
Mark 4 verse 20: And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
Verse 20: God expects and requires from those who enjoy the Gospel of the Kingdom. Fruit according to the seed. If the heart be humble and holy and heavenly there will be good fruit and this will abound sometimes to a hundredfold.
Mark 4 verse 21: And He said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
Verse 21: Christ asked them questions about the candle: Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel or under a bed.? Or is the candle not set on a candlestick.
Mark 4 verse 22: For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
Verse 22: There is nothing hid said the Lord. With God nothing is hid. All secrets will come to light. There is no treasure of gifts and graces lodged in any but with design o be communicated; nor was the Gospel of the Kingdom made a secret to the apstles. It should come abroad.
Mark 4 verse 23: If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
Verse 23: What does this mean? It is for them who hear and make a good use of it.
Mark 4 verse 24: And He said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
Verse 24: What does this mean? What ye hear doth ye no good unless you consider the Lord said to them. They that teach others must themselves be very observant of the things of God. So they had to prove all things that they may hold fast that which is good. If they made use of the knowledge they had ti should sensibly grow as stock in trade both by being turned.
Mark 4 verse 25: For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
Verse 25: What does the Lord mean with this verse? As the people who are the listeners of the Lord improve the talents they are entrusted with it shall increase them. If they make use of the knowledge they have it shall sensibly grow. Gifts and graces multiply by being exercised. If someone don't use it they lose what they have. Burying a talent is the betraying of a trust and amounts to a forfeiture.
Mark 4 verse 26: And He said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
Verse 26: The Gospel of the Kingdom is sown in the world said the Lord and sown in the heart, doth by degrees produce wonderful effects, but without noise. That is the kingdom of God.
Mark 4 verse 27: And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
Verse 27: For the husbandman it is not to describe how it comes up. This is one of the mysteries of nature. It is the Word of God and how the Spirit of God by the Word of God makes a change in the heart.
Mark 4 verse 28: For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
Verse 28: The Word of God grows gradually: first the blade, then the ear and after that the full corn in the ear. When it is sprung up it will go forward and have his course of nature. The Word of God is the Gospel of the Kingdom.
Mark 4 verse 29: But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
Verse 29: The Word of God brings fruit, it has effect and it comes to perfection at last. The fruit of the Gospel, good news of the Kingdom take place and works in the soul and then comes the harvest and God does this. These are the ones who receives the gospel and have finished their course. They shall be gathered as wheat into God's barn Matthew 13 verse 30
Mark 4 verse 30: And He said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
Verse 30: The Lord asked His diciples and others who were listening to Him about the Kingdom of God. With what the Kingdom of God had to be compared? Or with what comparison shall we compare it? With other words the Lord asked them this how shall I make you to be known the designed method of it.? The answer is in the next verse.
Mark 4 verse 31: It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
Verse 31: The Kingdom of God is like a grain of mustard seed! This is the answer!! When this grain of mustard seed is sown in the earth and it is known that this less than all the seeds that be in the earth. It is so small, so tiny. We have to read the next verse what will happen when this grain of mustard seed is sown in the earth.
Mark 4 verse 32: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
Verse 32: This tiny, small grain of mustard seed when it is sown grows and become greater than all herbs! This is remarkable! It shootheth out grad branches so that the birds of the air have residence under the shadow of these branches and leaves.
Mark 4 verse 33: And with many such parables spake He the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
Verse 33: He, the Lord Jesus Christ spoke in such parables and so brought He the Word of God to them. They could understand the earthly things from it but the spiritual things, the deeper meaning of the Word of God they didn't understand.
Mark 4 verse 34: But without a parable spake He not unto them: and when they were alone, He expounded all things to His disciples.
Verse 34: Without parables He didn't spoke to the people who were listening to Him and hear the Word of God. When He was alone with His disciples He explained all things to them. Why was this? He had chosen them so that they later could tell everyone in Israel the good news of the Kingdom of God which would come on earth. So that Israel could repent and the Kingdom should come on earth and Christ as King. Read Acts 3:19-21. These 12 disciples became later the 12 apostles and in the Kingdom they shall judge the 12 tribes of Israel.
Mark 4 verse 35: And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
Verse 35: That same day when the Lord spoke in parables when the evening came He said to His disciples: let us sail with a ship to the other side of the sea. First they send the multitude of men away before they went into the ship sailing to the other side of the sea.
Mark 4 verse 36: And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
Verse 36: First they send the multitude of men away before they went into the ship sailing to the other side of the sea. They took the Lord Jesus Christ into the ship and there were also little ships who sailed with this ship the Lord was on board.
Mark 4 verse 37: And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
Verse 37: On the sea of Galilee they were and suddenly there came a great storm of wind. The waves of the waters beat into the ship. The storm was so great that the ship was full of water. The other little ships shared also the distress and danger.
Mark 4 verse 38: And He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
Verse 38: The Lord Jesus Christ was asleep in this storm. He slept in the pilot's place. Asleep on a pillow. They make Him awake and said to Him: don't You care that we all perish? They were so afraid for their lives and that of their Master. That is the nature of men: when danger comes people are afraid.
Mark 4 verse 39: And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Verse 39: The Lord Jesus Christ stood up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea: peace, be still, quiet. Immediately the wind ceased and it became great calm. What a wonder the Lord did here! This let us see that He is God and have absolute power over everything.
Mark 4 verse 40: And He said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
Verse 40: The Lord Jesus Christ asked His disciples: why are you so afraid. Why you have no faith?
Mark 4 verse 41: And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Verse 41: The disciples profound emotional turmoil, reflecting a blend of awe and fear in response to a momentous event. They said to each other: what is this man that even the wind and sea obey Him?

Mark chapter 5
Mark 5 verse 1: And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
Verse 1: They, the Lord Jesus Christ and His disciples came unto the other side of the sea of Galilee and they arrived in the country or part of the Gadarenes. The “region of the Gadarenes” likely takes its name from Gadara, a city in the Decapolis, the region east of Galilee.
Mark 5 verse 2: And when He was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
Verse 2: The Lord Jesus Christ came out of the ship and right away there came a man to Him with a unclean spirit. This is a spirit which makes the man unclean, a demon possessed man. He lived in tombs but when he heard that the Lord was in his country he came right away to Him.
Mark 5 verse 3: Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
Verse 3: This man who was possessed by a demon lived in the tombs. Nobody could bind him or do chains on him. He was probably very strong and he was a danger for the people. Probably the people were afraid of him.
Mark 5 verse 4: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
Verse 4: A lot of times he was bound with fetters and chains but he plucked these chains and the fetters he broke in pieces like it was nothing. Nobody could tame this man.
Mark 5 verse 5: And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
Verse 5: This man with the unclean spirit was everytime in the mountains and in the tombs. He was crying and he was cutting himself with stones. A kind of self-mutilation what you also see sometimes with mental handicapped persons.
Mark 5 verse 6: But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped Him,
Verse 6: The man with the unclean spirit who lived in the mountains and in tombs and cried and cutting himself with stones saw the Lord Jesus Christ from a distance and then he ran to Him and adored Him. The man with the unclean spirit recognized that the Lord Jesus Christ was send by the most High God. That He was the Son of God. This is what the unclean said in the next verse.
Mark 5 verse 7: And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
Verse 7: The unclean spirit in the man cried with a loud voice and said: What have I to do with Thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? This spirit recognized and acknowledged that the Lord Jesus Christ was and is the son of God. The question was what have I to do with thee? He didn't want to have contact with Him.
Mark 5 verse 8: For He said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
Verse 8: This was a command from the Lord Jesus Christ: Come out of the man thou unclean spirit! Strong words!
Mark 5 verse 9: And He asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Verser 9: The Lord asked the unclean spirit what is thy name? The unclean spirit who was in that man said My Name is Legion. There were many unclean spirits in that man. He was possessed with unclean spirits.
Mark 5 verse 10: And he besought Him much that He would not send them away out of the country.
Verse 10: The Lord Jesus Christ because He is God Himself could cast out devils. They begged Him that He would not send these legion spirits out of the country.
Mark 5 verse 11: Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
Verse 11: A great herd of swines were near the mountains, on the foot of the mountains in that area. This was not far away where the Lord Jesus was.
Mark 5 verse 12: And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
Verse 12: All the devils who were in the man who was possessed with them begged the Lord Jesus Christ and said to Him this: Send us into the swine that we may enter into them.
Mark 5 verse 13: And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
Verse 13: And the Lord Jesus Christ allowed the devils to leave the man and so the unclean spirits went out and entered into the herd of swine and the whole herd of swine (two thousand swines) plunged from the steep slope into the sea. All those animals died.
Mark 5 verse 14: And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
Verse 14: The persons who looked after the 2000 swines and gave them to eat fled away because this was very scary. They told what had happen with the 2000 swines in the city and also in the whole country of Gadara. And people who had not seen it went out to see what happened with the man who was possessed of devils and now healed.
Mark 5 verse 15: And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Verse 15: So this people came to the Lord Jesus Christ and saw the man who was possessed with the devil, who had legion devils within him. Now he was clothed there and he had a right mind. He was healed! They were all afraid.
Mark 5 verse 16: And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
Verse 16: The people around the Lord Jesus Christ who had seen it that He cast out the devils of that man and the devils went into the swine. Also that they had seen and they told that the persons who came to see what happened.
Mark 5 verse 17: And they began to pray Him to depart out of their coasts.
Verse 17: The people begged the Lord Jesus Christ to depart out of their area. He was not welcome anymore there. This was a rejection from the people. They didn't want Him. For them He was a dangerous man and had ruined the work of a lot of workers who looked after the swines. Now they were without work.
Mark 5 verse 18: And when He was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed Him that he might be with Him.
Verse 18: The Lord was again to enter the ship to sail away from the country Gadara. Then the man who was healed by Him who was before posssessed with the devil begged Him that he might be with Him. In the next verse we read the Lord's answer to that man.
Mark 5 verse 19: Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Verse 19: The Lord Jesus Christ didn't want this man with Him. He said go home to thy friends. Tell them how great things the Lord hath done and had compassion of him. That the Lord was very good for him, loved him and healed him.
Mark 5 verse 20: And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
Verse 20: The man who was healed departed from the Lord Jesus Christ Who was in the ship to sail away and returned to Decapolis and told the people there how great things the Lord Jesus Christ ahd done for him. That He loved him, had compassion on him and healed him. All the people were amazed by this saying of the man.
Mark 5 verse 21: And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
Verse 21: The Lord sailed by ship to the other side of the sea of Galilee. A lot of people gathered unto Him when He was nigh unto the sea. To see and hear him was something special so that a lot of people came.
Mark 5 verse 22: And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Verse 22: One of the rulers of the synagogue came to Him. That was Jairus. When Jairus saw the Lord Jesus Christ he fell at His feet. He, Jairus acknowledged that the Lord Jesus Christ was God Himself and higher then himself. He acknowledged that the Lord has higher authorithy.
Mark 5 verse 23: And besought Him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
Verse 23: This man Jairus begged the Lord greatly. He was in need. His little daughter was so sick that she lay to die. He prayed the Lord that He would come into his house where his daugther lied . That the Lord would lay His hands on her that she might be healed and would live. He believed the Lord could do that.
Mark 5 verse 24: And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
Verse 24: The Lord went with Jairus to his house. A lot of people followed the Lord litteraly and they crowded together around Him. They saw in Him a great man who could heal people, doing wonders and heard His preachings. They wanted to see more of Him.
Mark 5 verse 25: And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
Verse 25: Under the people who followed him litteraly there was a woman who was known 12 years of flux of blood. In that time there were no good special docters for this problem. That we read in the next verse. She saw the Lord Jesus walking with Jairus to his house and she followed Him and she hoped and believed that the Lord could heal her.
Mark 5 verse 26: And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
Verse 26: She went in those 12 years to many physicians but those physicians couldn't heal her and she spend all the money for this withour result because the disease became worser and worser.
Mark 5 verse 27: When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Verse 27: This woman heard from others that the Lord Jesus Christ was there and she went very fast behind Him and touched His robe.
Mark 5 verse 28: For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
Verse 28: By herself she said that she wanted to touch His clothes/robe than I shall be healed. She had a strong believe in this.
Mark 5 verse 29: And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
Verse 29: And immediately her issue of blood that was much dried up. It stopped!!! And she felt in her body that she was healed from this disease/ plague. What a wonder this must have been for this woman! I think she became very happy with it.
Mark 5 verse 30: And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
Verse 30: The Lord Jesus Christ knew immediately that power was gone out of Him. He turned Himself and looked back and said to the people: Who touched my clothes/my robe? He hadn't seen that the woman had done that because she walked behind Him.
Mark 5 verse 31: And His disciples said unto Him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
Verse 31: His disciples responded to Him and said. Thou sees a multitude of people and very close to You and now thou say: who touched Me? It could be more people who do this because they were so close to Him. But the Lord knew who did this because He is God Himself. He is omnicient. What does that mean? Omniscience is means “the state of having total knowledge, the quality of knowing everything.” He has to be all-knowing.
Mark 5 verse 32: And He looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
Verse 32: The Lord Jesus Christ was looking round about to see the person and that was a woman who had done this.
Mark 5 verse 33: But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
Verse 33: The woman was afraid and trembled because the Lord was God Himself and that she knew and she knew also what happened inside her that she was healed. Then she came to Him and fell down before Him and told Him all the truth that she for 12 years was sick of this disease and that she wanted to be healed and when she heard that the Lord was nigh she ran after Him and thought when I touched His cloth/robe than I would be healed from this disease.
Mark 5 verse 34: And He said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
Verse 34: The Lord said to this woman: daughther. What beautiful to see. He didn't say child. He said daughter like a adult He saw her standing! Thy faith hath made thee whole. The manner how she trusted the Lord that He could heal her was enough that she was healed now. He said to her go in peace and be whole of thy plague.
Mark 5 verse 35: While He yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
Verse 35: The Lord was still speaking to the woman and then some of Jairus house came to Jairus and said to him: Thy daughter is dead. Why would you burden the Master with this? In their eyes it was not neccesary that the Lord would heal his daughter because it was too late!
Mark 5 verse 36: As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
Verse 36: The Lord Jesus Christ heard the word that was spoken to Jairus. Immediately He said to Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue: Be not afraid but believe. You have to trust!
Mark 5 verse 37: And He suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
Verse 37: The Lord asked only to follow Him Peter, James and John the brother of James. The reason was that they were I think the most trustful disciples of Him. Later Peter became the leader of the twelve and much later in Acts 15 Peter and John and the halfbrother of the the Lord also James because the James here was beheaded by King Herod, were also in Jerusalem when Paul and Barnabas were there also at th meeting there.
Mark 5 verse 38: And He cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
Verse 38: The Lord Jesus Christ came near the house of Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue and saw the tumult that had arisen because the girl was dead. So they wept and wailed greatly about her death. She was gone! These people the Lord met were hired to weep and cry loudly.
Mark 5 verse 39: And when He was come in, He saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
Verse 39: The Lord entered the house of Jairus and said to them all: why you make such a great tumult and weep so much? The damsel or girl is not dead but sleeps. How could He know that? Christ was God Himself and is omniscient! He knows everything.
Mark 5 verse 40: And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
Verse 40: These people who wept and made a show of it began to laught at Him. They despised Him with their laughing. But what did the Lord do on that moment? He drove these people out and took only the father, mother and His 3 disciples to the room of this young girl. She was lying there on a bed. The Lord Jesus Christ went into the room where the girl was laying.
Mark 5 verse 41: And He took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Verse 41: The Lord took the daughter of Jairus by the hand. Then He said to her: Talitha cumi. This is Aramaic and it means: daughter I say unto you arise!!
Mark 5 verse 42: And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
Verse 42: And there the wonder came: immediately the daughter of Jairus arose and walked. She was 12 years old!! The ones who were with the Lord and the girl were Jairus and his wife, Peter, James and John and they all were amazed about this with a great asthonishment. This was miraculous!! They had never seen this before! For sure they were so lucky Jairus and his wife. Their daughter was healed and alive!
Mark 5 verse 43: And He charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
Verse 43: The Lord Jesus Christ forbid those parents to talk to someone else about it. Why was this? Then maybe the word would come from the mourners that the girl had been in a coma adn had not actually been dead. Then afterwards it was not a miracle when this saying of the mourners was known to the people. He commanded to the father and mother that their daughter should be given food because that should strengthen her.

Mark Chapter 6
Mark 6 verse 1: And He went out from thence, and came into His own country; and His disciples follow Him.
Verse 1: The Lord went away and travelled to His own country, the country of Nazareth and His disciples followed Him. In this place the Lord had lived from His youth until He was 30 years old and began His ministry on earth. So He went back to Nazareth.
Mark 6 verse 2: And when the sabbath day was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
Verse 2: On the Sabbath's day He teached in the synagogue of Nazareth and many of the Jews heard Him and were amazed. They said: How does he acquire this wisdom and also the mighty works wrought by His hands where did He get it from? They had never seen and hear this before by any man.
Mark 6 verse 3: Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
Verse 3: They asked themselves and talked to each other if this was not the carpenter's son and the son of Mary? Are not his brothers James, Joses, Juda and Simon and are not his sisters with us. And they were irritated of Him. They didn't like Him, they rejected Him. These were the people who knew Him well but this people had no spiritual perception at all.
Mark 6 verse 4: But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Verse 4: The Lord Jesus Christ said to the people: a prophet is not honored in his own country, his own place, his own family.
Mark 6 verse 5: And He could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
Verse 5: Because the Lord was resisted by the people of Nazareth, He could there do no mighy work. Only some sick people were healed by Him through His hands laid upon these sick people.
Mark 6 verse 6: And He marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
Verse 6 The Lord Jesus Christ wondered of the fact that the Jews of Nazareth didn't believe in Him. So He went in the neighbourhood of Nazareth in other villages and teached there the Gospel of the Kingdom.
Mark 6 verse 7: And He called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
Verse 7: The Lord called unto Himself the 12 disciples and began to send them two and two and gave them power over unclean spirits that they could drive out unclean spirits of people because a lot of people in the land of Israel were in that time possessed with the devil or devils.
Mark 6 verse 8: And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
Verse 8: The disciples were send two and two and had the power over unclean spirits received from our Lord Jesus Christ because He only till that moment could cast out devils. The Lord Jesus Christ commissioned them to attack the devil's kingdom and empowered them to cast de devil out of the bodies of those that were possessed. With two men it was better to go. They had to take only staff, no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse. Why was this? It was because that they might appear, wherever they came , to be poor men.
Mark 6 verse 9: But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
Verse 9: That they took on sandals and not two coats, just one.
Mark 6 verse 10: And He said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.
Verse 10: The Lord Jesus Christ spoke to His disciples and said this: in what place you enter in a house, stay there until you depart from that house.
Mark 6 verse 11: And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Verse 11: Here we read very strong words of our Lord Jesus Christ to His disciples. The one who will not receive you or hear you: you have to leave that place and shake off the dust under your feet that they will see that for a witness against them. And then after He said this: for Sodom and Gomorrha (the cities who were very evil and were destroyed by sulfer and brimstone) it shall be more tolerable in the day of judgment than for the city who rejected the disciples two by two.
Mark 6 verse 12: And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
Verse 12: The disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ went out and preached unto men that they should repent. Only the Jews could repent because in the past they were with God and they had to come back to God. This was very important in the Gospel of the Kingdom. First to believe and repent and then to be baptized for the forgiveness of sins. This was also the message later on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem.
Mark 6 verse 13: And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
Verse 13: The disciples were given the gift to cast out devils. They did, many devils were cast out of bodies of persons. Not only this gift the Lord gave them: also to anointe persons with oil who were sick. They did and many of the sick people were healed by His disciples. The Lord Jesus Christ had given them that power to cast out devils and heal people with oil This was far before the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem.
Mark 6 verse 14: And king Herod heard of Him; (for His name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
Verse 14: King Herod had killed John the Baptist with the sword. John was beheaded and now king Herod heard of the Lord Jesus Christ. He heard what the Lord had said and what He had done: all the miracles, healings, that He spoke in parables. His Name was spread abroad. He was very known in the country of Israel. And the King said that He was John the Baptist who was risen from the dead and therefore he could do so mighty works because he was risen from the dead. A strange thought this king had about the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 6 verse 15: Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
Verse 15: Others from the Jewish people said that the Lord Jesus Christ was Elias and other people said that He was a prophet or one of the prophets because He did a lot of miriacles or mighty works that nobody could do.
Mark 6 verse 16: But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
Verse 16: King Herod heard also about what people said about the Lord Jesus Christ. He said that it was John whom he had had beheaded. King Herod firmly believed in this theory. What was passed with John the Baptist before he was imprisoned by King Herod. We will read this in the coming verses.
Mark 6 verse 17: For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.
Verse 17: King Herod had commanded some soldiers to laid hold upon John the Baptist and that happened. He bound him in prison because of Herodias. Herodias was Philip's wife. Philip was the brother of Herod. King Herod took her as wife for himself. According to the law of Moses this was adultery and John had said that this was not lawful to handle like this.
Mark 6 verse 18: For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
Verse 18: Openly John the Baptist said this to Herod that this was not lawful for him to have his brother's wife and that this was sin. For this saying King Herod John was bound in the prison of King Herod.
Mark 6 verse 19: Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
Verse 19: Now Herodias, the wife of King Herod was so angry about John that she wrangled against him and woudl have killed John but she couldn't. She had not the absolute power to kill John the Baptist. Her husband had the power.
Mark 6 verse 20: For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
Verse 20: John was in prison of King Herod. King Herod was afraid of John. He knew that John the Baptist was a prophet and had a lot of influence on people of Israel. He knew John was a just man and that he was holy. The king observed him every day and heard him a lot of times. When the king heard him John did many things and the king was glad to hear him.
Mark 6 verse 21: And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
Verse 21: Now king Herod had his birthday and he invited his lords, high captains and chief estates of Galilee to have supper with him in his palace.
Mark 6 verse 22: And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
Verse 22: The daughter of Herodias, Herod's wife entered the room where the king and his lords, high captains and chief estates of Galilee were. She danced before Herod! This was for entertainment, this pleased Herod and them that were with him. And the king said unto the daughter of Herodias: you can ask whatever you want and I give it to you.
Mark 6 verse 23: And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
Verse 23: He sware to the daughter of Herodias, his wife, whatsoever thou shalt ask of me I will give it to you unto the half of his kingdom. Maybe because of his birthday he said this to the damsel and probably he had drunk quite a bit when he sware this unto her.
Mark 6 verse 24: And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
Verse 24: The damsel went immediately after this to her mother and told her what king Herod had swared to her and then she asked her mother: what shall I ask? And her mother said: the head of John the Baptist. She hated him so much and would earlier have killed him but her husband the king was afraid of the people to kill him. Now he could not say no or refuse the damsel should ask him. This was nasty what her mother said to her.
Mark 6 verse 25: And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
Verse 25: Immediately with haste the damsel went back to the king and asked him and said: I will that thou give me the head of John the Baptist in a charger. It was to late now to refuse because he had said and swared to her.
Mark 6 verse 26: And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
Verse 26: King Herod after this saying was very sad about this but because of his oath's sake and because of the men who sat down with him.who were his subjects, he couldn't reject her.
Mark 6 verse 27: And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
Verse 27: King Herod send immediately an executioner and commanded him to behead John the Baptist in his prison and that his head be brought to him in a charger and this man went into the prison and beheaded John the Baptist. This was the druel end of John the Baptist's life on earth.
Mark 6 verse 28: And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.
Verse 28: The executioner who beheaded John the Baptist in prison brought his head in a charger and gave it to the damsel and she gave this charger with the head of John to her mother.
Mark 6 verse 29: And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
Verse 29: The disciples of John the Baptist heard of his beheading and what they had done with the head of him. They came to the prison where the corpse of John laid on the floor. They took up his corpse, his body and laid it in a tomb. They buried him. This must have been a very sad moment for his disciples we can imagine!
Mark 6 verse 30: And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
Verse 30: We had read that the Lord send His disciples forth by two and two and we had read and studied in this chapter what they could do. Now they came back, His 12 disciples that from now on also apostles were named because of the sending of the Lord. They told Him all things both what they had done and what they taught the people they met. A lot of responsibility the Lord gave them to do so that they could learn this and also for later when He was not with them anymore.
Mark 6 verse 31: And He said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
Verse 31: The Lord cared about His 12 apostles. He said that they had to rest in the desert place they were. Many people were coming and going there. The Lord and His apostles had no time to eat because of a lot of people who were coming and going. This happened more times.
Mark 6 verse 32: And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
Verse 32: The Lord and His disciples/apostles sailed by ship to a desert place. There His disciples could rest for a while.
Mark 6 verse 33: And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
Verse 33: The people saw them departing. The Lord and His disciples were in the ship. Many knew Him, the Lord and what He did: the healings, the miraculous things, the preachings He did. And they ran through all the cities to be there earlier then the Lord with His disciples by ship. They came together there unto HIm. In their mind and eyes He was so special Person!
Mark 6 verse 34: And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
Verse 34: The Lord came out of the ship with His disciples and then He saw a lot of people who had come to Him. He moved with compassion toward the crowd He saw because they were sheep. Sheep stands for Israel. Israel as folk had lost the way to God. They had no shepherd. God was their shepherd but they lost the way to Him and at that moment the Lord Jesus Christ teached them many things from God's Word. This was to learn them.
Mark 6 verse 35; And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
Verse 35: The day was almost gone. It became evening and the time to eat and drink things and His disciples came to Him and said to Him that the place they were was a desert place and the time was far passed. The day was almost gone.
Mark 6 verse 36: Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
Verse 36: They urged Him: send all the people away that they may go to their own villages where they live and buy themselves bread. They brought nothing with them and followed us and have nothing to eat (and drink). Did the Lord send them away? We read on in the next verses.
Mark 6 verse 37: He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
Verse 37: He answered His disciples and said unto them Give ye all the people who are here to eat. Then they give Him a answer and said : Shall we buy food (bread) for 200 penny's and then give them to eat?
Mark 6 verse 38: He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
Verse 38: He asked them this: how many bread you have taken with you. Go and see this . When they had seen it and knew how much it was they said to Him this: Five loaves of bread and 2 fishes.
Mark 6 verse 39: And He commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
Verse 39: The Lord commanded His disciples to make all people who were there to sit down upon the green grass.
Mark 6 verse 40: And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
Verse 40: Why was this: the people sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties? Because God is a God of order and not of confusion. The only one who wants confusion is the devil himself. With so many people, this had to proceed in an orderly manner.
Mark 6 verse 41: And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
Verse 41: Christ didn't call one of His disciples to crave a blessing but did it Himself. He looked up to heaven where His Father is and was and blessed the food and broke the loaves of bread and gave it to His disciples that they set before the people. The 2 fishes He divided among them all. He was the only one who could do this
Mark 6 verse 42: And they did all eat, and were filled.
Verse 42: This is really a miracle the Lord did here. All the people who were there inclusive the disciples did all eat and were loaded or filled. They were no hungry after this eating. 5000 people were there. Christ was come into the world to be a great Feeder and also a great Healer.
Mark 6 verse 43: And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
Verse 43: See what happened!! After that all the men and that were 5000 men had eaten of the 5 bread and 2 fishes and were filled the 12 baskets were full of the fragments of bread and of the fishes!! What a miracle the Lord did to fill 5000 men with 5 bread and 2 fishes!. No one could do that! All men were filled! There was no one under them that hungered after that meal!!
Mark 6 verse 44:And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
Verse 44: Five thousand men did eat of the loaves and were filled!!
Mark 6 verse 45: And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
Verse 45: Immediately after the feeding of the 5000 men the Lord Jesus Christ gave His disciples the command to get into the ship and that they sailed to the other side unto Bethsaida. The Lord would sent away the 5000 men and He did. The 5000 men listened to the Lord and went to their homes filled from all the eating.
Mark 6 verse 46: And when He had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
Verse 46: He send the multitude of 5000 men away to their homes. Then He departed from that desert place and went into a mountain to pray to God the Father. What He prayed there on the mountain to His Father in heaven. The Lord had first send His apostles/disciples away to get into the ship. That was a picture how He was about to send them sailing into the Tribulation that would have come if the Dispensation of Grace not interrupted the prophetic program. The praying on the mountain to God the Father is a picture after He send the apostles heading toward the Tribulation He died and rose and ascended into heavenly mountain to pray for them Hebrews 12 verse 22 and Hebrews 9: 24.
Mark 6 verse 47: And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and He alone on the land.
Verse 47: After the Tribulation was supposed to break out a stormy time that we see marked the ship in the midst of the sea. and He saw them toiling in rowing because the wind was against them.
Mark 6 verse 48: And He saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
Verse 48: And He saw them toiling in rowing because the wind was against them. The wind described here is often associated with the prince of the power of the air. The rowed from the 4 th until the 9 th hour of the night. Then He came to them and our Lord walked upon the sea. He would have passed them. Christ was the light of the world as long that He was in the world. When He left the evening came and the darkness began. The Tribulation will also start like that. Without the light that is the Lord will this a period of darkness.
Mark 6 verse 49: But when they saw Him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
Verse 49: When they saw Him walking upon the sea they thought He was a spirit. They became very afraid and cried out of fear.
Mark 6 verse 50: For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
Verse 50: All of the apostles saw Him and they were anxious. Then He talked to them and said unto them. Be cheerful and glad because I am and be not afraid of Me. These were reassuring words of the Lord to them so that they became calm.
Mark 6 verse 51: And He went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
Verse 51: The Lord came onboard the ship and joined the 12 apostles/disciples and the wind stopped. The 12 apostles were so amazed about this: This was something beyond measure and they wondered how this could happen: that the Lord did all these miracles and wonders: walking on the water and stop the storm on the sea.
Mark 6 verse 52: For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
Verse 52: The 12 apostles didn't consider the miracle of the loaves that the Lord feed the 5000 men with 5 loaves and 2 fishes! Why not? Because their heart was hardened. They were blind and they didn't see this great miracle.
Mark 6 verse 53: And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
Verse 53: They sailed to the other side of the Sea of Galilee and came into the land of Gennesaret and came ashore.
Mark 6 verse 54: And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
Verse 54: The Lord with His apostles/disciples came out of the ship in the land of Gennesaret and the people immediately recognize Him and knew Him. Our Lord was a striking Figure. In Him they saw Someone with authority, a Rabbi and send by God! Also a Person Who was the only One who could heal because we read in the next verses this.
Mark 6 verse 55: And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
Verse 55: The people knew the Lord could heal all the sick people so they ran through the whole land of Gennesaret and began to carry the ones who were sick and laid on beds because they heard that He was in their area.
Mark 6 verse 56: And whithersoever He entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
Verse 56: So the Lord entered in all the villages or cities of this country and where He came the people had laid the sick in the streets, in the open air and begged Him that they could touch the border of His clothes so when they did this they were healed from sickness. So every person who touched this border of His garment was healed.

Mark Chapter 7
Mark 7 verse 1: Then came together unto Him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
Verse 1: The Pharisees and some of the scribes came togeter to the Lord Jesus Christ and the came from Jerusalem. These men were always against the Lord and what He preached and what He did in His earthly ministry. They always criticised what the Lord was doing and now in this chapter we see again this. A lot ot these men were very fanatic in the Law of Moses and have made themselves also rules above the law of Moses and say to people that they had to keep all those rulse but they were themselves hypocrites because they didn't do what the law of Moses commanded them to do.
Mark 7 verse 2: And when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
Verse 2 These Pharisees and scribes saw some of His disciples to eat bread with unwashed hands they say ot each other this is a fault to eat bread with defiled hands.
Mark 7 verse 3: For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
Verse 3 Now you see in this verse the tradition of all the Jews: If you wash not your hands you cannot eat bread or something else because to eat with defiled hands is a shame and you are not allowed to do it. I know very well that in my family when I was a child we had also to wash our hands before every meal.
Mark 7 verse 4: And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
Verse 4: These Pharisees and Jews adhered to a lot of rules what you can read here: washing of hands before eating, washing of cups, pots, brasen vessels and tables.
Mark 7 verse 5: Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
Verse 5: Then they came to the Lord Jesus Christ and asked Him this why His disciples not walked according the tradition of the elders of the folk and eat bread with unwashen hands? This was against the tradition and against the rules the elders had ascribed for all the Jews inclusive the disciples.
Mark 7 verse 6: He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
Verse 6: The Lord gave here the right answer to them. He quotes the prophet Isaiah, who says this: This people, Israel, honored Me with their lips but their heart is far from Me saith the Lord. The Lord Jesus Christ named them hypocrites. They were hypocrites those Pharisees and scribes and elders of the folk. They said they believe in God but in the practice of life they ignored and refused Him as their God.
Mark 7 verse 7: Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Verse 7: The Lord Jesus Christ is talking to the Pharisees and scribes and elders of the folk Israel. In vain they worship God and they teach doctrines and commandments of men but not the commandments of God, not the Law of God. They don't obey them.
Mark 7 verse 8: For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
Verse 8: And now the Lord Jesus Christ is personally speaking to these pharisees and scribes and He said this: you lay aside the commandment of God, you ignore it and have your own tradition of men namely washing of pots and cups, washing of hands and more things ye do but not obeying God. That was really bad. The Lord made them realize here in His answer to them that they do wrong things.
Mark 7 verse 9: And He said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
Verse 9: Here in this verse the Lord gave the reason that they do wrong things. They reject the commandments of God, they hated them and don't believe in God and instead of that they hold on their own tradition: the tradition of men. They were hypocrites because they imposed rules on others because they did not follow them themselves.
Mark 7 verse 10: For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
Verse 10: The Lord Jesus Christ knew very well the Scriptures: the Law of Moses because these Pharisees and scribes believed the law of Moses and He has this commandment: honor your father and your mother but the one who curse his father and mother it will be better that he died the death.
Mark 7 verse 11: But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
Verse 11: What did the Pharisees say and the Lord knew it very well what they said to people. They say it is Corban. If a father or a mother is not profited to the child and the child asked anything of father or mother let him or her tell them this and it is enough as if by the obligation of this wicked vow he had discharged himself from the obligation.
Mark 7 verse 12: And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
Verse 12: The child has with this Corban nothing to do for his father or for his mother. With this they made the Word of God give way to their own tradition.
Mark 7 verse 13: Making the Word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
Verse 13: Strong words of the Lord Jesus Christ to these scribes and pharisees! He said to them: you make the Word of God powerless because of your tradition which you bring over to men and many more things like that you do. Through their tradition and words the Word of God became not known to the people in Israel. This was evil!
Mark 7 verse 14: And when He had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:
Verse 14: After this saying to the scribes and pharisees the Lord called all the people who were there and He said unto them: Listen to me everyone of you and understand! With other words don't listen to the pharisees and scribes who criticized people and tried to bring persons under the law and under their own traditions.
Mark 7 verse 15: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
Verse 15: The Lord said this to them: there is nothing without man which entering him that can defile him. The things which come out of man that are the things which defile him.
Mark 7 verse 16: If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
Verse 16: Any man who have ears to hear let him hear. What does this mean. Only man who understands spiritual the Word of God let him hear. Otherwise it is impossible to understand the Word of God. You need God's Holy Spirit to understand it.
Mark 7 verse 17: And when He was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
Verse 17: The Lord Jesus Christ entered the house from people and His disciples immediately asked Him about the parable because they didn't understand it.
Mark 7 verse 18: And He saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
Verse 18: Then the Lord asked them this: Are ye so without understanding also? Like the people outside? Do you not understand that what comes outside into man cannot defile him. The Lord is talking about food and drink what comes into man because you read in the next verse this.
Mark 7 verse 19: Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
Verse 19: Food and drinks enter not the man's heart but his belly and that is a open way. The food and drink is in the belly of man is purified from waste and will come out like defecation and urine.
Mark 7 verse 20: And He said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
Verse 20: What comes out of the heart of men that defiles the man. The heart is corrupt. As a corrupt fountain sends forth corrupt streams, so doth a corrupt fountain.
Mark 7 verse 21: For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
Verse 21: From within out of the heart of men that which delifes proceeds, thence comes all the mischief. As a corrupt source sends forth corrupt streams. so doth a corrupt heart. From the corrupt thoughts of the heart followed adulteries, fornications and murders.
Mark 7 verse 22: Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
Verse 22: All the above things come from the corrupt heart of men because of the fall of man. This is what sinners do from nature. And this is what the Lord told His disciples so that they might understood what He was saying.
Mark 7 verse 23: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
Verse 23: Everything the Lord Jesus Christ isted here in those verses that defile the man and not eating and drinking because that will go to the stomach, belly and a lot will come out naturally. Eating and drinking again is for the body of man.
Mark 7 verse 24: And from thence He arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.
Verse 24: The Lord Jesus Christ stood up from there and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. This was Lebanon and the land was Fenicie. He entered a house and He wanted that no man knew this. But the Lord couldn't hide Himself for men because we read in the next verse this:
Mark 7 verse 25: For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of Him, and came and fell at His feet:
Verse 25: People knew that He entered the house at least this woman whose daughter who was young had a unclean spirit. The little girl was possessed with the devil! This woman heard from other persons that He was there and came to Him. So she entered into the house where He was and fell at His feet.
Mark 7 verse 26: The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
Verse 26: The woman was a Greek Syrophenican by nation! A Syrophoenician is a person from the Roman province of Syria-Phoenicia (modern-day Lebanon) in the 1st century, combining Syrian and Phoenician heritage. This woman begged Him that He would cast out the devil of her daughter. She was not a Jewish woman but a Gentile woman. What was the answer of the Lord Jesus Christ to this woman. We read it in the next verse.
Mark 7 verse 27: But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
Verse 27: The Lord said to her: The children had first to be filled with the bread and that is the Word of God. Israel as nation had first to be filled with God's Word. Under the time when our Lord was on earth God handled with Israel as nation and He handled not with the Gentiles. When a Gentile wanted to believe in God he or she had to believe in God and had to be circumcised and kept the law of Moses everyday. Israel was the chanel of blessing to God. They had the promises of God, they had the hope of God. Not the Gentiles. We read Ephesians 2 verse 11 and 12: Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world. The Lord rightly says that the bread is for Israel, these are the children and it is not so that the bread will be given to the dogs, the Gentiles.
Mark 7 verse 28: And she answered and said unto Him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.
Verse 28: This woman who was a Gentile, answered the Lord and said: yet the dogs under the table eat of the crumbs of the children. With other words there are also a lot of Gentiles who believe in God although they didn't had the promises, Law giving, the Word of God because God was not busy with the Gentiles.
Mark 7 verse 29: And He said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
Verse 29: The Lord Jesus Christ said to this Gentiles woman: this saying is true, go thy way to home. Your daughter is healed by Me because the devil is gone out of her. What an amazing moment that must have been for this woman: her daughter healed by the Lord Jesus Christ!! What a blessed day for her and now she should see her daughter without the devil in her!
Mark 7 verse 30: And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
Verse 30: The Gentile woman came home and she found the devil gone out. There was no unrest, chaos anymore in her daughter. Her daughter was laying on the bed. It was all quiet! What a miracle that had taken place! The Lord had healed her daughter. What a glad moment and day this must have been for this Gentile woman: to have a cleaned and healed daughter!!
Mark 7 verse 31: And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
Verse 31: The Lord Jesus Christ was more times on the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, now Lebanon. He left these coasts where He had healed the possessed daughter of the Gentile woman and He came unto the sea of Galilee through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. It was where Bethsaida and Gerasa layed as place.
Mark 7 verse 32: And they bring unto Him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
Verse 32: People brought when He was on the sea of Galilee a deaf man en couldn't speak so very well. I have in the past some weeks worked with deaf people and as they spoke they spoke in sign language and if the want to speak loud it was like this man in this verse with an impediment in their speech because persons who are deaf completely they don't hear themselves speaking (loud). The people who brought this man to the Lord Jesus Christ knew that He could heal this man so that he became well. They begged the Lord Jesus Christ to heal this man by putting His hand upon him.
Mark 7 verse 33: And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers into his ears, and He spit, and touched his tongue;
Verse 33: What did the Lord Jesus Christ do? He took the deaf man apart from the multitude of men. After this the Lord put His fingers into the ears of the deaf man and subsequently the Lord spit and touched the tongue of the deaf man. This was something very special! What did He do after this? We read in the next verse the answer!
Mark 7 verse 34: And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
Verse 34: The Lord looked up to heaven. Why He did this? To pray to His Father which you can also read in John 11: 41. And then He said to the deaf man: Ephphatha which means be opened! So that the deaf man could hear for the first time in his life and could speak very well. In the next verse we read what happened!
Mark 7 verse 35: And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
Verse 35: And immediately the ears of this deaf man were opened and the string or ligamentum of the man's tongue was loosed so that he spoke right or plain! What a wonder the Lord did here near the sea of Galilee!!
Mark 7 verse 36: And He charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
Verse 36: Why did the Lord Jesus Christ charged the people that they wouldn't tell anybody of this healing and not one time but more times? He ordered to be kept this very private. It was His humility that He charged them they should tell no man. Why the people here didn't listen to Him and obey Him? It was their enthusiasm that they made it known before Christ would have had it made known to people. The people who told this in the neighbourhood were beyond measure astonished.
Mark 7 verse 37: And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
Verse 37: They were so enthusiast and beyound measure astonished! They witnessed for Him that He did it well this miracle, this healing that He even made the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak. This was really something special to tell everybody they saw! The Lord did it without money, without price! That was also special to think about it. He did this healing outside on the street so that people could see it and not behind closed doors what you see now in the "Evangelical world" with so named healing services! He could heal everyone who was sick and the persons He healed were well after this and not like you see today that most of the people who come from healing services have still the sickness and are not well!

Mark chapter 8
Mark 8 verse 1: In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
Verse 1: The Lord in these days was in the wilderness again and a multitude was with Him and heard Him and saw all the wonders/miracles He did. There was one problem they had nothing to eat so the Lord called His disciples unto Him and said to them this. We read this in the next verses.
Mark 8 verse 2: I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
Verse 2: The Lord Jesus Christ said to His disciples that He had a deeply caring for all the people. Why did He say this? The answer is that they were for 3 days with Him and had nothing to eat. The people had to eat. They were fasting for three days! For example If I eat a whole day not then I became hungry and I feel not very well. The sugar level will be lower than normal. Some of these people feeled not very well after 3 days of not eating.
Mark 8 verse 3: And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
Verse 3: He said also that if He send the multitude away without food they will die on their way to their homes. Some of these people came from a long distance.
Mark 8 verse 4: And His disciples answered Him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
Verse 4: His disciples answered Him: whom can give them bread so that their hunger can be satisfied? They were in the wilderness and in the wilderness there was nothing to eat
Mark 8 verse 5: And He asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
Verse 5: It was time for action. It could not take any longer. So the Lord asked His disciples how many loaves of bread you have taken with you? They answered Him seven.
Mark 8 verse 6: And He commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
Verse 6: The Lord Jesus Christ commanded the people to sit down on the ground. They obeyed to Him and then He took the bread (7 loaves of bread). Allways He gave thanks to His Father in heaven and broke the loaves and gave this to His disciples and they set these bread before them and the disciples set this bread before the people. They eat from the bread, all the people who were there!
Mark 8 verse 7: And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
Verse 7: The disciples had also taken a few small fishes. He blessed the food (fish) and again He commanded to set these fish also before the multitude of men. That were 4000 men. That is a lot to feed!!
Mark 8 verse 8: So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
Verse 8: All the people (4000 men) did eat and were sated with this food. The disciples took up of the broken meat that was left and there were over 7 baskets of food. What a miracle again the Lord did here. No one could do such a wonder!
Mark 8 verse 9: And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and He sent them away.
Verse 9: The 4000 men had eaten and were filled with the food and after this the Lord Jesus Christ send them away. Away to their homes and they went to their own homes, to their own places.
Mark 8 verse 10: And straightway He entered into a ship with His disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
Verse 10: After the people were send to their own places/houses after feeding them the Lord Jesus Christ immediately entered with His diciplse into a ship and came into the parts of Dalanutha. This was above the places Tiberias, Magdala.
Mark 8 verse 11: And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with Him, seeking of Him a sign from heaven, tempting Him.
Verse 11: Also there the Pharisees came to Him. They knew He was there and they began to ask Him. This was by them done in bad faith. They didn't believe in Him but it was only to tempt Him so that they could accuse Him. Seeking a sign from heaven. The Lord knew them and knew their heart that was not right so we read in the next verse this.
Mark 8 verse 12: And He sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
Verse 12: What does this mean He sighed deeply in His spirit? The answer for this is: Jesus sighs deeply inindignation and grief. These scholars of the Law, Pharisees, should have accepted the signs of fulfilled prophecies but their hearts wered hardened and their minds are not where God's is (Mark 8:33). They didn't believe in Him and He knew it. That's why He said to them this: Why you want to seek after a sign? I say unto you that there shall no sign be given unto you!
Mark 8 verse 13: And He left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
Verse 13: After this saying (see verse 12) the Lord Jesus Christ entered into the ship and departed to the other side of the sea of Galilee. In 2019 my wife and me were there on the sea of Galilee and that was really special to see it and think when you are there that the Lord Jesus Christ 2000 years ago was a lot of times in that area and also that He went by ship over the sea.
Mark 8 verse 14: Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
Verse 14: The disciples had forgotten to take bread with them and for the Lord Jesus. Only one load of bread was in the ship what they could eat.
Mark 8 verse 15: And He charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
Verse 15: The Lord Jesus Christ warned His disciples that they had to be careful of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod. What was the meaning of this. We read this in the next verses.
Mark 8 verse 16: And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
Verse 16: The disciples analysed in themselves and said to each other that they had the answer for His charging because they had no bread.
Mark 8 verse 17: And when Jesus knew it, He saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
Verse 17: The Lord knew it what they reasoned among themselves and said to them: why you reasoned among yourselves that you have no bread. Notice ye not yet? Neither understand it? Did you hardened your own heart yet. Why He said this to His disciples? They had no or little faith in Him that He was able to do everything and performed a miracle.
Mark 8 verse 18: Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
Verse 18: They did have eyes? They did see it? It looked they had eyes yes but didn;t see it and haveing ears they didn't hear it and were deaf. Had the disciples forgotten what happened in the past?
Mark 8 verse 19: When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
Verse 19: The Lord Jesus Christ remembered His disciples about the fact here in this verse, the miracle He did, before them and asked them this: five loaves among 5000 men. How many baskets full of fragments took ye up. They answered 12 baskets. He wanted to demonstrate with this that nothing is impossible for the Lord to do and that they could believe in HIm.
Mark 8 verse 20: And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
Verse 20: The same He asked for the seven loaves among 4000 men. How many baskets full of fragments were left and took they up? They answered Him seven. That was also a miracle the Lord did.
Mark 8 verse 21: And He said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
Verse 21: After this saying He asked them this why they didn't understand His words? They remebered the 5000 men and the 4000 men who were feeded with loaves and a lot was left in baskets each time. And still they didn't understand His words.
Mark 8 verse 22: And He cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought Him to touch him.
Verse 22: The Lord Jesus Christ came into Bethsaida and they brought a man to Him who was blind and begged Him to touch this man so that this man could see and be healed.
Mark 8 verse 23: And He took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when He had spit on his eyes, and put His hands upon him, He asked him if he saw ought.
Verse 23: The Lord took the blind man by the hand out of the town of Bethsaida. The Lord spit on the eyes of the blind man and after that He put His hands upon this man. Then the Lord Jesus Christ asked the man if he saw something?
Mark 8 verse 24: And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
Verse 24: The man first looked up and then answered the Lord Jesus Christ with I see men as trees walking. So the man couldn't see clear at that moment. In the next verse we read what happened after this.
Mark 8 verse 25: After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
Verse 25: After this answer of the man the Lord Jesus Christ put His hands again upon the eyes of this man and after this He made him look for the second time. The mand was restored! He saw every man clearly. What a miracle the Lord did here in Bethsaida!
Mark 8 verse 26: And He sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
Verse 26: The Lord send the healed man away to his own house and said to him that he had not to enter the town and tell nobody about this miracle and Who had healed him.
Mark 8 verse 27: And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
Verse 27: The Lord went out with His disciples into the towns of Caesarea Philippi. This was situated in the north of the land of Israel. He asked His disciples what people say who He was. He wanted to figure this out and yet He knew it all already.
Mark 8 verse 28: And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
Verse 28: His disciples answered that some of the people say John the Baptist. Why? The Lord Jesus Christ resembled John the Baptist. Also king Herod thought also that the Lord was John the Baptist who was alive again after Herod behead him. Some of the people said Elias and others one of the prophets God had send.
Mark 8 verse 29: And He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
Verse 29: And now the Lord would know from His disciples what they think Who He is and Peter gave answer to this question and said to the Lord Thou art the Christ. Most of the times Peter was the first who answered the questions of the Lord or say something. He became later the leader of the 12 disciples/apostles. The Lord Jesus Christ appointed him to be the leader of these 12.
Mark 8 verse 30: And He charged them that they should tell no man of Him.,
Verse 30: And after this saying He forbade the 12 disciples that they should tell nobody of Him that He was the Christ. Why He did this? The answer is that it was not the time for the 12 disciples to make known Him as Christ and Savior because this was all before the cross and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 8 verse 31: And He began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Verse 31: The Lord Jesus Christ made known His disciples that the Son of man, Himself, had to suffer many things. He told them that He had to be rejected of the elders, chief priests, scribes of the folk Israel and after that be killed by them. He told them also that after 3 days He would rise again. In the next verses we read about the reactions of the disciples that they didn't understand His words.
Mark 8 verse 32: And He spake that saying openly. And Peter took Him, and began to rebuke Him.
Verse 32: The Lord Jesus Christ told this very openly to His disciples. They didn't understand it. Peter was always the first man who reacted on things what He said to them and Peter here in this verse took the Lord aside and began to rebuke Him. Peter completely didn't know what the Lord was talking about: that He must suffer and be rejected of the leaders of the folk Israel and be killed and after 3 days He would rise from the dead.
Mark 8 verse 33: But when He had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
Verse 33: The Lord later looked on His disciples and He rebuked Peter and said to him: get thee behind me satan. It was satan who didn't believe on Him and influenced Peter totaly: thou savourest not the things that be of God but the things which are of men.
Mark 8 verse 34: And when He had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Verse 34: The Lord Jesus Christ called the people unto Him because He had in mind to say something very special and also His disciples were with Him. This is what He said to the people: the one who will come after me, let him or her deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. What does this mean? He asked that people would follow Him litterally and this is a life of self denial like a disciple has to do. Let a person not pretend his own physician. Thus people had to continue to follow Him. The cross where He later on died for mankind no men could bear because everyone is a sinner Romans 5:12 but the Lord Jesus Christ is without sin because He is God Himself that's why He could die for mankind on that cross.
Mark 8 verse 35: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
Verse 35: What does this verse mean? The person who will save his life by declining Christ he or she will lose his life and will not have eternal life in Him. But the ones who shall lose their lives or willing to lose their lives, to deny himself and follow Christ and believe in Him and the Gospel of the Kingdom, their lives will be saved. It was in that time not only to believe in Him also to do something like denying yourself.
Mark 8 verse 36: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Verse 36: The Lord asked immediately this question here in verse 36. What does this mean? What is it for a man to save lives of the whole world or gain the whole world and is lost forever, lose his own soul?
Mark 8 verse 37: Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Verse 37: Here another question of the Lord to His disciples and the people He talked to. The profit of all the world in sin is not sufficient to countervail the ruin of the soul by sin.
Mark 8 verse 38: Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Verse 38: Strong words the Lord spoke here in this verse! Many of the people in Israel in that time were ashamed of Him and of His words He spoke. They were a adulterous and sinful generation who lived in the time when the Lord was on earth and spoke to them. They hated Him and were irritated and didn't want the righteousness He spoke of. They thought their own righteousness and were lost and when the Lord Jesus Christ shall come in glory of His Father and with His holy angels on earth then He shall be ashamed of them and they will not enter the Kingdom on earth but will go to hell.

Mark chapter 9
Mark 9 verse 1: And He said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
Verse 1: The Lord said here in this verse something special. Some persons who were there with the Lord and stood shall not taste of death till they will see the Kingdom of God which will come on earth.
Mark 9 verse 2: And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.
Verse 2: The Lord after 6 days took Peter, James and John with Him and they went to a high mountain. They only! Why He took Peter, James and John with Him and not all His disciples? The reason for this was that Peter, James and John were the pillars of the disciples. They were the leaders of the 12 disciples. Later on they had the authority given by the Lord to lead the 12 apostles. So the Lord lead them up into a high mountain apart for themselves and He was changed before them. He was transfigured before them.
Mark 9 verse 3: And His raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
Verse 3: His clothes developed into shining. More white as snow! On earth there was nobody who could make it more white as these clothes. This was something special! It must have been something extraordinary!
Mark 9 verse 4: And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
Verse 4: Who were talking there with the Lord Jesus Christ in this special moment on that moutain with the transfiguration of Christ Himself? Christ’s transfiguration here in Mark 9:2-13 was a metamorphosis. Elias and Moses were talking with Him. Very special to read this. Why they spoke with Him and not other persons like other prophets or important persons in the Bible? Elias and Moses were both prophets under the Old Testament. Moses was buried and Elias was caught away or caugth up or raptured. Moses represent the Law and Elias represent the prophets. Both of which their fulfillment in Jesus ChristTheir graves were not found on earth because God took these both men away and brought them to paradise. From the earth above to under the earth to paradise like Henoch. That's why these both men appeared with Him and talked with Him. They were the companions of our Lord in His glory.
Mark 9 verse 5: And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Verse 5: These 3 disciples Peter, James and John saw and heard what was saying and Peter in his enthusiasm and boldness said this to the Lord: Master it is very good that we are here and then he said let us (the disciples) make 3 tabernacles: one for Thee, one for Moses and one for Elias. We read in the next verse that Peter had no idea what he was saying.
Mark 9 verse 6: For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
Verse 6: Peter didn't know what to say because this tranfiguration made these three men very anxious. They had the greatest fear!
Mark 9 verse 7: And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
Verse 7: A cloud overshadowed Peter, James and John so that they could not see and a voice, the voice of God the Father came out of the cloud: This is my beloved Son, hear Him. The voice who they heard came from heaven from God the Father and this was an validation of the truth of Christ's Mediatorship.
Mark 9 verse 8: And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
Verse 8: And promptly Peter, James and John looked around themselves and they saw no Moses and Elias anymore. Only the Lord Jesus Christ they saw and was with them.
Mark 9 verse 9: And as they came down from the mountain, He charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
Verse 9: They came down from the mountain where the transfiguration had taken place. And Hribe commanded, urged or warned Peter, James and John that they should not tell this to other men what they had seen there on the mountain. Because the Lord was not risen from the dead so when He was risen from the dead this became reality.
Mark 9 verse 10: And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
Verse 10: So they kept these words and what they knew and had seen for themselves They asked themselves and each other what the rising of the dead should mean. They had no idea about that.
Mark 9 verse 11: And they asked Him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?
Verse 11: They, the disciples Peter, James and John asked the Lord this why the scribes said that Elias must first come according Malachi 4 verse 5: Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of theLord. Elias shall come for the great and dreadful day of the Lord, the day that the Lord will come on earth again, His second coming. In the next verse the Lord gave answer to their question.
Mark 9 verse 12: And He answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that He must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
Verse 12: The Lord answered their question. Elias shall come first and shall restore all things. He shall tell the people which was written of the Son of man, the Lord Jesus Christ that He had to suffer many things and be disrespected. This will be explained to the people then just before the great and dreadful day of the Lord would be.
Mark 9 verse 13: But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
Verse 13: Elias was indeed come to the people the Lord explained to Peter, James and John . People have done unto him whatsoever they liked to do with him: not accepted Elias and killled him what is also written of him. Read Matthew 11: 13-14
Mark 9 verse 14: And when He came to His disciples, He saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
Verse 14: He came back to His disciples after the transfiguration on the mountain. There was a great multitude of people there what He saw and the scribes were twisting/questioning the people, maybe His disciples.
Mark 9 verse 15: And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
Verse 16: And immediately all the people when the multitude of men saw Him they were amazed to seem Him. And they run to Him and saluted Him. What they saw was maybe something of His Divinity! It was a special moment when He appeared to them all!
Mark 9 verse 16: And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
Verse 16: The Lord asked the scribes whay they were question, twisted with them. What was the reason of their twisting?
Mark 9 verse 17: And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
Verse 17: One person of the multitude of men answered the Lord and said to Him Master. I have brought my son to You because he has a dumb spirit. What does that mean a dumb spirit? We look it up in het Main Concordance from the Greek word alalos. It means that this son of this man couldn't speak, he couldn't utter!
Mark 9 verse 18: And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
Verse 18: This son was really possessed with a devil and a kind of epilepsy. Where the devil him took he teareth and the boy foameth and gnasteth with his teeth and pineth away. These are signs also for a kind of epllepsy. The devil or demon was doing his best to destroy this boy. So I spoke to Your disciples that they should cast the devil out but they couldn't do that. The Lord had given His disciples authority to cast out demons Mark 6:7 and yet their handling to the boy was ineffective.
Mark 9 verse 19: He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
Verse 19: The Lord answered this man. Why He said to them o faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How shall I suffer you? The Lord rebuked them and was grieved with His disciples. After that He said bring the boby unto me.
Mark 9 verse 20: And they brought him unto Him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
Verse 20: They brought the boy to the Lord and when the boy saw the Lord Jesus Christ immediately the demon in him tare him and the boy was falling on the ground and wallowed foaming. This was a epileptic insult he got and that was caused by the demon within him.
Mark 9 verse 21: And He asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
Verse 21: The Lord Jesus Christ asked the father of the boy how long he has this disease and this demon in him who tared him always. The father answered the Lord from his youth on.
Mark 9 verse 22: And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
Verse 22: Then the man continued here and said many times the demon cast my son into the fire and into the waters to kill him. If You can do something about it and have mercy on us so help us! This was a hopeless cry from this man. This man was at it's wit's end with this. He couldnt bear it anymore!
Mark 9 verse 23: Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
Verse 23: The Lord Jesus Christ said to him this if you can believe all things are possible for you and for everyone that believes. This was a answer and is a answer of hope.
Mark 9 verse 24: And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Verse 24: Immediately after this saying of the Lord the father of the child cried out and said with tears Lord I believe! Help thou with my unbelief. What a emotion there came out of this man and for sure it was a emotional moment because this demon possessed child was a long time like this.
Mark 9 verse 25: When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Verse 26: When the Lord Jesus Christ saw the people, the multitude of men came running together to see it He reprimanded the foul spirit or demon and said to him very clear: thou dumb and deaf spirit I command you to go out of this boy and enter no more into him. What a strong words the Lord used here. This was something special and the people saw and heard it.
Mark 9 verse 26: And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
Verse 26: The spirit or demon cried and harmed this boy very hard and went out of him. The body after that was as dead. The people saw it and many of them said that the boy was dead. The boy lay motionless there on the ground as dead.
Mark 9 verse 27: But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
Verse 27: But the Lord Jesus Christ took the boy by the hand and lifted him up and the boy arose. He was healed by the Lord! What a wonder, what a miracle. This was something special and the people who saw it must have been surprised!
Mark 9 verse 28: And when He was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
Verse 28: The Lord Jesus Christ came into the house and His disciples asked Him without other people why they couldn't cast the devil out of the man who had this. The Lord had given the power to them to cast out devils and not it didn't work. Why was this not working they wanted to know this.
Mark 9 verse 29: And He said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
Verse 29: The Lord Jesus Christ answered His disciples and said this: This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. What does this mean? The interpretation of this verse is that the Lord Jesus Christ explained that this “kind” of demon possessing was so powerful that the disciples weren't able to drive out. Only by prayer to God and fasting it would result in the healing of this boy.
Mark 9 verse 30: And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
Verse 30: The Lord Jesus Christ and His disciples departed from there and the Lord Jesus forbade His disciples to tell about what had happened namely the healing of the man here in this chapter. Why was this? They passed through Galilee. The time of His sufferings was nigh and that's He was willing to talk alone with His disciples.
Mark 9 verse 31: For He taught His disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
Verse 31: The Lord Jesus Christ began to explain His disciples that He Himself and He called Himself the Son of man should be delivered of men and be killed by them and after He is killed He shall rise the third day. This was important that they knew this.
Mark 9 verse 32: But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask Him.
Verse 32: His disciples after He had told them this they didn't understand what He was saying to them and nobody from them asked something about that because they were afraid.
