Introduction
This is the second and last Epistle of the apostle Paul in his life here on earth. This epistle is just written before the apostle's martyrdom, his execution in prison from Rome to Timotheus his spiritual son in the faith. The circumstances were changed in Paul's life. In this epistle or letter of the apostle Paul, Paul knew that the end of his life was near. He knew he wouldn't be a free man anymore. For a time before this last epistle he was again a free man because we read in II Timothy 4 verse 13 the following verse:The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. He asked Timothy to do this because the circumstances for the apostle Paul were bad in prison. In verse 6 of this same chapter we read: For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. Through God's resurrection power the apostle Paul had done a lot of things and made known the whole Gospel of the Grace of God and withhold nothing to anyone who would hear it and believe it. The resistance became bigger and bigger against the Gospel of the Grace of God. People left this Gospel of Grace and followed lies like Demas in verse 10 of the same chapter: For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. Through all those discouragements and suffering for Christ the apostle Paul urges us on de Gospel of Gods Grace to know and to stand for it. Listen what he said to Timothy: But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. On the end of his life the apostle Paul could say:I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith II Timothy 4 verse 7.  He Paul had done this and this is something to think about. Oh that we may also say this on the end of our lives here on earth just the same words what the apostle Paul said.

II Timothy 1 verse 1

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Verse 1: Paul an apostle of Jesus Christ. It was the will of God that Paul, Saul of Tarsus became an apostle. God had called him on the way nearby Damascus Syria. Saul of Tarsus or Paul later named was the biggest enemy of God on earth. From a murderer and the biggest enemy on earth Paul became the servant of Jesus Christ and an apostle.  In I Timothy 1 verse  15 and 16 we read:This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.  Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. From a blashemer, a prosecutor and a oppressor Paul became an apostle. In I Timothy 1 verse 13 we read: Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. He lived the life before he was saved a ignorant life and did all in unbelief. He was the first man who was saved by Grace alone, by faith alone and in Christ alone. The Dispensation of Grace, whereunder we still live, he had to deal out to this world, to men and women. It was Gods will that this was made known to this lost world.  Ephesians 3 verse 1-3. Through the fall of Israel Romans 11:11, 25 God began a new Dispensation, the Dispensation of His Grace and Paul proclaimed this as first man in this world. He proclaimed under this Dispensation the Gospel of the Grace of God Acts 20:24, Romans 16:25-26, Colossians 1:25,26.

The second thing what we here read is according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus. God had made this promise before the world began that every person in this world have the possibility to have eternal life through believing the finished work on the cross through our Lord Jesus Christ because He paid the price for our sins on that cross, He died on that cross on Calvary for you and me. He paid to redeem us with His blood of eternal death!  Romans 4 verse 25: Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.  About the eternal life in Christ the apostle Paul has so much to tell us in all his epistles!! In Him, in Christ are the promises of eternal life. And brother and sister you received Him as Savior for your life and you have eternal life in Him!! Yes eternal life!!! What a blessing, what a wonder!!! We are saved by Gods Grace through His blood that flowed from the cross!! Forever we are saved Ephesians 2:8-9!!! In II Timothy 1 verses 9 and 10 we read: Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. How great this is and be still and think about this for a moment now!! This is what God had done through His Son Jesus Christ for us. We couldn't save ourselves and dear reader if you are not saved yet: you cannot save yourself. Trust in Jesus Christ as Savior for your life and have also eternal life. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved!

II Timothy 1 verse 2

To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Verse 2: To Timothy. This epistle was for him, directed to him first. In the second place this epistle or letter is directed to the whole Body of Christ so to us also who are members of the heavenly Church! What is very striking is that Paul writes here to Timothy: my dearly beloved son. Naturally Timothy was no son of him. He was the son of a Jewish mother Eunice and a Greek father who's name we don't know because the Bible don't tell us the name. My dearly beloved son has more to do with the son in the faith in Christ. Timothy was Paul's spiritual son and the apostle Paul show very well here that he had a great love of God for Timothy and it let you also see that the two men had a close spiritual relationship in the Lord.  In verse 4 of this chapte we read: Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy" A very strong bond had Paul with Timothy and all those year I have contact with persons who know the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God and stand for this the same experience I have like Paul had with Timothy. This is a great begin in this epistle. What comes out strong is the love or agape of God, His Grace, mercy and peace in these words. Grace, mercy and peace are from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. Grace, mercy and peace are not from men. Man don't know naturally what Grace, mercy and peace is and this we see now very sharp in the war of Ukraine. No respect for persons, war, agressive people, agressors, murderers. A call now to all the criminals in this war: stop killing people and realize yourself you are a sinner and lost. You can believe the Gospel of the Grace of God. There is a chance!!! Believe what Jesus Christ has done for you on that cross!!  I Corinthians 15:3 and 4 tells us the following: For I delivered unto you first  of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.  This said the Bible and you can find on your smartphone!  You can read it now! He died for you on that cross for your sins. Yes for you personally and He stood up from the dead to give you life, yes eternal life! You are one second from it! Do it before it is to late! You think I can hide myself before God but He knows your heart! Nothing is hidden from Him. Hebrews 4 verse 13 (read this!!).  You can flee from judgments here on earth but for God you cannot flee!!. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved! Acts 16:31

II Timothy 1 verse 3

I thank God, Whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience,

that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

Verse 3: The apostle Paul thanked God here. A lot of times he thanked God. There was all reason for it to thank God. He Paul from a murderer and biggest enemy of God he became a servant of Jesus Christ and was and is saved by Grace alone, by Faith alone and in Christ alone. (Read Achts 9, 22 and 26) He served the Lord as a servant and God was the One, the God from his forefathers. He did this with a pure conscience. In Galatians 2 verse 20 we read this:I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. For you and me as members of the Body of Christ it is the same like Paul and we have to thank God everytime for this!! We are also saved by Grace alone, by Faith alone and in Christ alone. Without ceasing= not stopping!  Paul said I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day. Paul prayed always for Timothy, his son in the faith who he left in Ephesus. What a example for us to pray also daily for our brothers and sisters we know and are dear for us like Paul who prayed for Timothy always and that without ceasing! It let you see the love Paul had for Timothy his son in the common faith.

II Timothy 1 verse 4

Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

Verse 4 The apostle Paul desired so much to see Timothy again. Paul was in prison for the second time in Rome and lived in very harsh conditions there. It was cold, dirty in the prison and moreover he was in chains in this dungeon. The apostle Paul was waiting on his physical death, the execution. He knew it very well. There was no way out anymore. He was the prisoner of ceasar Nero who was a very cruel man like more men nowadays in this world. Tha's why he longed to see Timothy before this had taken place. In 2 Timothy 4 verse 9 we read:Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me. It was urgent because Paul's life was at an end. We don't know if this has happened yet. The Scriptures don't tell us this. Timothy was for Paul a son, a spiritual son. You see here being mindful of thy tears. These emotions certainly did him. We see here emotions falling like tears. It was for Timothy a heavy task to continue as a evangelist and preacher to proclaim the Gospel of the Grace of God and the apostle Paul, his father was in prison and that was very heavy. He had a lot of pain in his stomach and belly. This was his weakness and he had to drink also little wine for it and if he was on time to see Paul maybe for the last time in his life, Paul might be filled with joy and Timothy also. This is so intense my dear brothers and sisters. I remember the last day when I saw my father just before he died and that was also emotional and last year my mother who was full of joy of the Lord and said I am going to heaven to my heavenly Father. This is a really emotional moment and so intense and oh I was so glad for her on that moment and still. This is really intense and you can be still of it. This was it also for the apostle Paul so great desire to see his son back for a last time.

II Timothy 1 verse 5

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt

first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Verse 5: This is a remarkable verse which the apostle Paul writes here. Timothy, Paul's son in the faith had from youth on the Holy Scriptures known II Timothy 3 verse 15:  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. The unfeigned faith that he had Timothy which also was in his grandmother Lois and in his mother Eunice. They told him when Timothy was very young from this. Very young Timothy had accepted Christ as Savior and that was all the influence what his grandmother and mother had on him. In Acts 16 verses 1-8 we read about Timothy for the first time and he had a good witness from brothers and sisters in Lystre and Iconium. His father was as Greek man and we don't know if his father was a believer in Christ or not. Because of the Jews Paul circumcised him and after that he took him with him on a lot of journeys. The apostle Paul was persuaded that the same faith what his mother and grandmother had also lived in Timothy. No doubt about it. This is really a example for us my dear brothers and sisters and what has faith a lot of influence on children so it is very important for us as parents and grandparents to be a example in the same faith which Timothy and Paul had.

II Timothy 1 verse 6

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Verse 6: What does these words mean which the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, his son in the faith. It was for Timothy a very difficult time in Ephesus. People left en masse the Gospel of the Grace of God and Timothy got a bit discouraged because he was the pastor of the local church of Ephesus. The apostle said here to Timothy: put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which was in Timothy by the putting of the hands of Paul. Stir up means to be awake. Don't lose the mood to continue with the Gospel of the Grace of God and his leadership of the local church. Yes Timothy was the pastor of Ephesus. In I Timothy 4 verse 14 we read: Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. This gift, the gift to be a pastor or a leader of the local church of Ephesus. Timothy had to endure a lot and he had regular pain in his stomach and belly. Despite this he had not to give up the mood and the apostle Paul remembered him on this. To stand firm for the truth was sometimes very difficult for this young man Timothy. We just like Timothy are also weak and despite everything what happens now we have also to continue my dear brothers and sisters with the Gospel of the Grace of God and stand for it and preach it to others. To do the work as a evangelist!

II Timothy 1 verse 7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Verse 7: In the first place the apostle Paul wrote this to Timothy, his son in the faith. It is also as members of the Body of Christ written because we live still under the Dispensation of Grace Ephesians 3:1-3. God hath given His Spirit on the moment we received the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior! We read in Ephesians 1 verse 13 and 14 the following words:In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ: on the moment you and me trusted the Lord as Savior we are sealed with the Spirit of God. God is living in us through His Spirit. This is not again the Spirit of fear as before our own spirit. In Romans 8 verse 15 and 16:For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God" No longer we are in Adam but in Christ my brother and sister. We are sealed with God's Spirit we have seen and therefore we haven't to be afraid for anything. Why to shame for the fact that we believe in Christ as Savior? The one who tries to let us ashame is the devil, the adversary, the accuser. We have God's Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind. This means discipline, correct thinking, Through God's Gospel of Grace we get this thinking if we stand fast in this. In I Thessalonians 3 verse 3 we read the following: That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know. For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain. Fear in this is something from our flesh, our human spirit. So we have not to listen to fear and we have to know and make it our own what we read in Romans 8 verse 37: Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. Through Him and that is in Christ.

II Timothy 1 verse 8

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the power of God;

Verse 8: Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord. What does this mean my brothers and sisters? The testimony of our Lord is this what we read in I Timothy 6 verse 1: I give thee charge in the sight of God, Who quickeneth all thins and before Christ Jesus, Who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession. In John 18 verse 36-37 we read:Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.  Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.  And in Philippians in the second Chapter in verse 5-11 where we read this: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. So Timothy had not to be ashamed. We too have not to be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord and not that the apostle Paul suffered so much for this: the Gospel of the Grace of God and the authorities of Rome killed him for this.  The apostle called in the first place Timothy and we too to be a partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the power of God. In Romans 1 verse 16 we read: For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth" The apostle Paul was again in prison in Rome. He was in a dungeon probably and suffered a lot of tribulations. It was also cold in that prison and he was bound with chains and the call was not to be ashame for this to Timothy and be a partaker of this. Also in Ephesians 3 verse 1 we read : For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles. Sure we as believers in Christ and stand for it the Gospel of Christ has to suffer for this. It could be also spiritual that we stand alone in this lost world. Just as Paul we have not to be ashamed. In 2 Timothy 2 verse 3 we read: Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. And in Romans 12 verse 12 we read:Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; In 2 Timothy 3 verse 12 we read: Yea, and all  that will live Godly in Christ Jesus  shall suffer persecution. But again brothers and sisters: we have not to be afraid. Our future in heaven will be glorious forever!!!

II Timothy 1 verse 9

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Verse 9: It is God Who saved us through the Lord Jesus Christ. We read in Ephesians 2 verse 8-9 the followingverses: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. And called us with a holy calling. A apart calling and not according to our works. Through our works we cannot be saved and reach God but God had reached us and saved us through the faith of Jesus Christ His Son. He gave Himself for us on the cross and bear on the cross our sins. Romans 5 verse 8 tells us: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. In verse 8 we have read the verses of the epistle to the Philippians  chapter 2 verses 5-9 (read again in verse 8 those verses) and this is what exactly happened. It was according to the purpose of God Himself before the world began that Christ would die for mankind and we are saved by Grace alone, by faith alone in in Christ alone. His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus! How wonderful this is. Prais God for this that He loved this world and gave Himself for it, for us. Yes it was for you and me my brother and sister!! Romans 4 verse 25. To save the world He had to die on that cruel cross on Calvary. To give His life for us so that we could live, live forever. With our brains we cannot comprehend this but through believing this we accept this fact!

II Timothy 1 verse 10

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, Who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Verse 10: Before the world began it was a secret that God's purpose and Grace was in Christ to let Him die on that cruel cross on Calvary for mankind. That He would save the world through Christ through Grace through faith in Christ alone! God made this deal before the foundation of the world with Himself. But now it is made manifest to Paul this secret and the apostle Paul proclaimed through the Gospel he received from the risen Lord Jesus Christ.  In Acts 9 verses 3-6 we read the following verses:And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And in Acts 26 verse 16 we read: But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;  The apostle Paul my dear brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ got his revelations from our Lord Jesus Christ from heaven! This is the appearing of Jesus Christ !  He appeared to Paul in heaven!!! Not on earth!!! We are just like the apostle Paul citizens of heaven!! The apostle Paul had progressive revelations wherein the entire Gospel of Grace was made known to him by the Lord Jesus Christ. Through all the epistles of the apostle Paul you can read and study this Gospel Romans 16:25-26, Acts 20:24. In Galatians 1 verse 1 we read: Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) And hath brought life and immortality to light through this Gospel, the Gospel of the Grace of God. In Romans 6 verse 9 and 10 we read: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that He died, He died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, He liveth unto God. Death is devoured.  What came in this place is the incorruption! Immortality!! Through the Gospel of the Grace of God we learn this. You cannot find this in the prophecy but only in the mystery in the apostle Paul's 13 epistles!!! Learn this Gospel and see what riches you have in Christ!!! Romans 16:25-26

II Timothy 1 verse 11

Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

Verse 11: The apostle Paul was appointed to be a preachter, and an apostle and a teacher. He proclaimed the Gospel of the Grace of God. He was the first who did this because he was the first man in the Body of Christ. God saved his bitterest enemy on earth Saul of Tarsus named Paul and in Acts 9 verse 15 and 16 we read:But the Lord said unto him (Ananias), Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. Paul was not one of the twelve apostles ! In Galatians 2 verse 7 and 8 we read:But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) More scriptures of the Word of God to prove this are in Romans 11 verse 13:For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office. And in I Timothy 2 verse 7 we read the following words:Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. This proves that Paul was the apostle of the Gentiles and that he was not one of the twelve apostles. Paul was apart called by the risen Lord Jesus Christ from heaven and appointe to be a preacher, an apostle and a teachter of the Gentiles to make known the Mystery, the Gospel of the Grace of God Acts 20:24, 32, Romans 16:25-26.

II Timothy 1 verse 12

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed,

and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.

Verse 12: Why the apostle Paul had so much to suffer and why he had so much enemies? Not alone the Jewish, also Gentiles were enemies. But they were enemies of the cross, they didn't believe the Gospel of the Grace of God. Nowadays most people don't know the Gospel of the Grace of God and most people won't believe it. Why is this? Satan, God's enemy is defeated through the cross. We read in Colossians 2 verse 15: And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Through the cross he, satan,  is defeated and that is the reason that he hates this Gospel of Grace and hate also the persons who bring the truth because satan is the father of lies. Satan thought he had won when our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross on Calvary, that he defeated the Lord Jesus Christ there but he deceived himself at Calvary. Now he does everything he can to prevent it and this is what you see in this world now and also in the time of Paul. Nowadays we are in the last days of the Dispensation of Grace and you see the resistance get bigger against the truth of God. I have the idea as believer in Christ that we are the last generation who believes in this truth and most persons of the next generation will not accept it and believe in a lie! The apostle Paul was not ashamed because he stood for what he believed and he knew in Whom he believed, yes in the risen Lord Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul was persuaded from God that He is and was able to keep which Paul committed unto God a precious deposit. In Chapter 3 of this epistle we learn more about this.

II Timothy 1 verse 13

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Verse 13: The apostle Paul admonishes here Timothy, his son in the faith to hold fast the form of sound words, the sound Doctrine. It was very difficult for Timothy in Ephesus. There were a lot of people who were against this and most people had turned away from the truth. You see here these are serious words from the apostle. Timothy had heard from Paul the sound words, the sound Doctrine and had to keep it and he had not deviate from it!!! What are these sound words? Answer: the Gospel of Gods Grace Acts 20:24, 32, Romans 16:25-26 (read those verses). For us as members of the Body of Christ this is also for us the truth, the sound Doctrine!! This is to hold fast and keep it till the end of our lives here on earth!!! In II Timothy 3 verse 14 we read: But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them. Sometimes this is very difficult in these perilous times we live in now. We have not much here fellow thinkers and fellow laborers. This is the suffering we suffer here.

II Timothy 1 verse 14

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Verse 14: What doe it mean that good thing which was committed unto thee (Timothy). A precious deposit. The answer is the faith in Christ. The faith in His finished work on the cross, the glory of the cross.  This is the good thing and it is just like unto Timothy trusted to us too.  This is through the Holy Ghost which is living in us. Ephesians 1 verse 13 and 14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. For the daily life we read in Romans 8 verse 11-12But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.  Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

II Timothy 1 verse 15

This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Verse 15: Timothy knew that all they which were in Asia turned away from Paul.  Paul had preached 3 years under the people of Ephesus and after that the uproar came. All people who knew the Gospel of the Grace of God and believed it in Asia turned on a certain moment away from Paul, from the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God. Under those people were Phygellus and Hermogenes. They were against the Gospel of the Grace of God and satan used those two man to resist the truth of God. On the end of Paul's life only Luke was with him. Luke remained faithful to the death of Paul. The turning away began with that people were ashamed of the apostle Paul who was persecuted, in prison with chains and maybe a lot of people were afraid to suffer and to be put in prison because what followed was execution under Nero, Caesar of Rome. And most reason I think is that men believe rather the lie then the truth. For the apostle Paul this was very hard because he was in the dungeon in Rome and saw the end of his life and almost nobody believed anymore the truth. He remembered Timothy on these facts. Nowadays it is alsmost the same my dear brothers and sisters what you see in this world. The truth is hated because satan hates it and is defeated by it. That's why he resists and try to keep people away from the truth. There is only a small group in this world who believes the truth and stand for it. The majority of believers believe the lie and that is a mix of the Gospel of the Kingdom, law, social gospel and Grace. Therefore a call to you brother and sister: wake up and begin to read and study the Gospel of the Grace of God and believe it! It is the Gospel of you and me for today. Our spiritual food.

II Timothy 1 verse 16

The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

Verse 16: Here we have a good example of a person who was a believer in Christ and stood for the truth and was not ashamed of the chains of Paul like other people who were ashamed and doubted if the Gospel of God's Grace was and is the truth because of the fact that Paul was in prison in chains for this Gospel. They thought this can never be the truth and also that the Gospel everywhere contradicted. For them this was the reason to turn away from it and believe the lie because the lie was easier to believe in and had a lot of supporters. This you see in the Christian world nowadays also. The majority of believers in Christ believe the lie which satan whispers them in their ears. That's why we have the days of the itching ears now. Onesiphorus was another man. He was real and trustful. He often refreshed Paul in the dungeon/prison in Rome. He was not ashamed of Paul and of his chains. He stood just like Paul for the truth. What is refreshing?  This mean cheer up because the apostle's days were very difficult on the end of his life. Paul lived under bad circumstances in the dungeon in Rome and was in chains. Terrible as you think what this take along. For Paul it must be sometimes also must have been sad and this man Onesiphorus brought refreshment!! That was good and is also good news to have such a  brother in Christ.  Where are those men who are like Onesiphorus? Are you a man like him? Think about it!

II Timothy 1 verse 17

But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.

Verse 17: When Onesiphorus was in Rome he was searching for the apostle Paul in a diligent way. Probably it was not easy to find Paul but Onesiphorus didn't give up and found the apostle Paul. Onesiforus had served Paul in the Gospel of the Grace of God in Ephesus in a good manner which pleased God. He stood for the truth and that made him strong in the faith. He didn't leave the Gospel of the Grace of God which other men did there in Asia. These two men had a close relation with each other through the Gospel of Grace. Onesiphorus was not ashamed of Paul and that Paul was in prison with chains. In the prison Onesiphorus refreshed the apostle Paul. The meeting these men had  was constructive! It is also true charity that this man, Onesiphorus, had for the apostle Paul. This is a real example for us and we can learn a lot from this man. Brothers and sisters: let us follow this example and that we have real love of God for people in general but most for the members of the Body of Christ.

II Timothy 1 verse 18

The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in

how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Verse 18: Onesiphorus had much mercy shown to Paul and had also visited him in prison in Rome. He was never ashamed for the Gospel of the Grace of God and for the chains of Paul. The Lord grant him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day. Which day? The day when we all finaly will be in heaven at the Bema. This is also our hope, our future my dear brothers and sisters!! Onesiphorus had in many things ministered unto Paul at Ephesus. 3 years long. Timothy knew Onesiphorus also very well and he knew also how this man had walked and ministered with Paul at Ephesus. What a example for us to do the same like all those men who ministered with Paul!  Think about it my dear brothers and sisters!

II Timothy chapter 2

II Timothy 2 verse 1

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Verse 1: A very important verse this Chapter begins with. From prison the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy thou therefore my son. He called Timothy his son, his son in the faith of Jesus Christ our Lord. The apostle knows very well how hard Timothy had in Ephesus. Men had turned away from the truth, the Grace which is in Christ Jesus. And here despite this the apostle Paul admonishes Timothy to be strong in the Grace that is in Christ Jesus. To continue in the Gospel of the Grace of God was not easy for Timothy. For us the same my brothers and sisters. You stand often alone in the midst of unbelief and a lot of opposition. To have the courage to continue is sometimes difficult but we know what are the consequences if we fall away from God's Grace which the majority of believers do. There is nothing new under the sun because this happened 2000 years ago and nowadays it is the same.  So brother and sister if you don't know the Grace of God which is in Christ Jesus learn it through the epistles of the apostle Paul and learn so the truth I Timothy 2 verse 3-4.

II Timothy 2 verse 2

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses,

the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Verse 2: In the first place this was written to Timothy who was the spiritual son of the apostle Paul. The things that thou hast heard of me. What had Timothy learned from the apostle Paul? The Gospel of the Grace of God which is the truth! The sound Doctrine which is for today! Timothy had heard this among many witnesses. Timothy was now the leader of the local church at Ephesus. He was the head of it. He Timothy was a pastor and this was trusted to him, the Gospel of Grace and this he had to teach to faithful men who were able also to teach others. Why he had to teach people who were able to teach others. Because God's will is in I Timothy 2 verses 3 and 4 tell us the following:  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. People have to hear it from faithful men and it is the will of God that every man is not only saved but learn that sound doctrine and later can teach others about it.  What my experience is here in this small country is that there a very few men who are faithful. We have the times of the itching ears.  In general people listen more to the lie which satan them whisper than to search for the truth.  In II Timothy 4 verses 1 and 2 w read: I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. This is what a man of God who knows the truth and stand for it must do and don't stop. That is also my motivation to continue like Timothy, like the apostle Paul and others who were fellowlaborers of him. May God help us today pastors, teachers and evangelists to preach, proclaim the Gospel of Gods Grace, the sound doctrine to other people. My prayer and the desire is that you as reader come to know to this wonderful message of Grace and begin to stand for it and after a while be able to teach others. This is the only Gospel for today, another Gospel is not the Gospel!! Galatians 1: 6-9 read those words!!

II Timothy 2 verse 3

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Verse 3: To endure hardness. What is the meaning of this? Paul admonishes here Timothy to endure hardness. It means what can a believer in Christ bear. The question is when you are a believer in Christ and know the truth can you endure persecutions,  heavy difficulties like the apostle Paul endured in his life? Oppressions hurts. The question is can you bear this dear brother and sister? Or are you afraid for this? Less people want to have oppressions, persecutions, suffer because that hurts and most people don't want this. In Ephesians 6 verses 10-20 we read about the soldier of Jesus Christ and how he must strife against the devil with his lies. In Ephesians 6 verse 10 we read: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. This is what God's Word tell us to do! Are you ready to do this my brother and sister? Or are you afraid for this? It is a desire from me that we all who believe the Gospel of Gods Grace can say with the apostle Paul on the end of our lives this: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Do yo want to be a good soldier of Jesus Christ? Read and learn the epistles of the apostle Paul: Romans -Philemon.

II Timothy 2 verse 4

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life;

that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Verse 4: What does this mean brother and sister. As a soldier of Christ you are busy with God's Word and defend it and specially the Word of Gods Grace and endure hardness what we have seen in the verse before. God had chosen us to be soldiers of Him through our Lord Jesus Christ because we are in Him. We’re all soldiers of Christ. The only question is if we are “good” soldiers?  This is the same for being “ambassadors for Christ” (IICor.5:20). We all represent the Lord. The  the only question is, how well? Now the question here can we be entangleth with the affairs of this life. Is this our task to to meddle in politics? No and the reason is to warn us about this is because it has always been easy for God’s people to get entangled in these things Proverbs 24:21 tells us this: My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change" Politics my dear brother and sister is not our fight. This will not say that we are not to vote for a politic party but we are not get involved in it. We have to avoid all entanglements of life. These are disorders, complications, confusions. For we as ambassadors and soldiers of Christ are doing the great work of edifying the Body of Christ with a knowledge of the truth Acts 20:32, Romans 16:25-26. This is our task. We have to please God and this is the will of God that we are good soldiers and ambassadors of Him and preach the Gospel of Grace to anyone who wants to listen to it and receive it. II Corinthians 5 verse 19-21 read this!!

II Timothy 2 verse 5

And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

Verse 5: If a man also strive for masteries. What are masteries?  Focuses on progress, meeting yourself where you are. He has also to examine himself many times if he is a good soldier of Jesus Christ? A man of God who knows the truth and stand for it is like the athlete. He should abide by the rules to win the battle. It is the battle against the devil, our adversary! The believer in Christ who stand for the truth and know how to strive he had to do it according the Gospel of the Grace of God because otherwise he will not be crowned. This is what we have to do my brothers and sisters: to build on the fundament which is our Lord Jesus Christ with the good material. We read carefully I Corinthians 3 verse 12-16: According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. We have to build with this foundation gold, silver and precious stones because they will not burn. This is the Gospel of the Grace of God and we have to stand for it to the end of our lives. The test with fire will be when we appear before Christ at the Bema. This will be the crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give in the first place to Paul our apostle and unto all of us that love His appearing. II Timothy 4 verse 8

II Timothy 2 verse 6

The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

Verse 6: What does this mean my brother, sister? The husbandman is the farmer. The farmer labours and he must be first partaker of the fruits. The farmer must spend much hours working in the field and that is plowing, sowing and reaping. The steward of God is like a soldier and he looks for courage and self discipline like a athlete. He should abide by the rules which God had given through the Gospel of Grace.  For the farmer it is hard working and then he has results. In James 5 verse 7 we read: Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. The principe my brother and sister is if we make known the Gospel of the Grace of God, the Mystery we have to be patient with all men and with time that it has result like the farmer who is hard working for the fruits of the land and therefore we have this scripture here: Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. I Corinthians 15:58. Not only my brothers and sisters is our labor not in vain in the Lord because God honors faithfulness, never stopping in His service insures eventual reaping at the Bema. We labor for Him and not for ourselves my brothers and sisters and this is hard working!

II Timothy 2 verse 7

Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

Verse 7: Consider means check. We have to check what the apostle Paul says like the noble Bereans! If it is all true what is written from the apostle Paul. We read in Ephesians 1 vers 17 and 18 the following words: That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. The apostle Paul says here in this verse the same what he wrote to the Ephesian believers in the first chapter of the book of Ephesians. His message was given by the risen Lord Jesus Christ from heaven by revelations and this has not to be confused with the message the 12 received from our Lord when He was on earth. It is not Israel and her future glory on earth with the Kingdom but the Body of Christ and her position and blessings in heaven with Him.  The apostle prays like in the book of Ephesians that we may be given divine wisdom of God to comprehend fully!! Under the old Testament King Solomo asked God devine wisdom and God gave him this. We can learn Gos's wisdom through His Word!  In Proverbs 2 verse 6 we read the following verse:For theLordgiveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. This my brothers and sisters is a general truth and make this your own!!

II Timothy 2 verse 8

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

Verse 8: Jesus Christ is of the seed of David because Jesus Christ is God and Man. Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, this is a fact. In Romans 4 verse 25 we read the following word:Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.  And in Romans 6 verse 9 and 10 we read:Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. After 3 days and 3 nights laying in the grave the Lord Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. He is risen! And now He is on the right hand of the Father and prays and does intercession for us the Body of Christ. It He was not risen from the dead our believe in Him  didn't mean nothing because then we were still lost. But now He lives forever and we have eternal life in Him. That is something to think about. He is raised from the dead according the Gospel of Gods Grace. That was the Gospel the apostle Paul proclaimed!!! Read the Genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ in the book of Matthew in chapter 1. There He is named the Son of David.

II Timothy 2 verse 9

Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

Verse 9: For this, for the Gospel of the Grace of God, for the hope of the resurrection was Paul in prison as a evil doer, in bonds. He the apostle Paul suffered much for this Gospel of Grace, the Mystery which was committed to him by the risen Lord Jesus Christ from heaven to proclaim this to a lost world. He was arrested and was put in prison in Rome as an evil doer. He was in bonds. The circumstances in the prison he was was very awful. It was cold and dirty. It was a dungeon where our apostle Paul was the last months of his life. But he said: the Word of God is not bound. Yes the Word of God is never bound my dear brothers and sisters. It is not bound on a certain place. It is worldwide God's Word. God's Word is very strong, it is like dunamis, dynamite!!! Hebrews 4 verse 12 Read this verse! When we also suffer and have persecutions God's Word is in eternity II Timothy 3 verse 12. Let us continue my brothers and sisters to make known the Gospel of the Grace of God, to make known to everyone who wants to listen the glory of the cross

II Timothy 2 verse 10

Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may

also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Verse 10: Here you read the love of God, the agape in this verse. The apostle Paul endured all things for the elect's sake. He had a lot to suffer for God's Gospel of Grace and endured all others, other men. In Acts 20: 24 we read : But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. The apostle Paul was able to give his life for it. God's love worked on a wonderful manner through the apostle Paul. The love of Christ we read in 2 Corinthians 5 verse 14: For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead.  This was the motivation of the apostle Paul never to stop proclaiming the Gospel of Gods Grace, the glory of the cross!! That other men also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory! This should also be our desire: to make known to everyone who wants to listen the Gospel of the Grace of God so that men begin to believe in Christ in His finished work on the cross first and be saved forever and have eternal life.

II Timothy 2 verse 11

It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with Him, we shall also live with Him

Verse 11: It is a faithful saying!! God is faithful that's why His Word is also faithful, trustful. We are crucified with Him, we died with Him on that cross on Calvary! In Romans 6 verse 3-4 we read: Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Our old man was crucified with Him, is dead with Him and now we are alive in Him. We are new men in Him my dear brothers and sisters. Praise God. He had done this for us! He died for you and me on that cross, our death He died there. And now Christ is our life. He lives now in us through His Spirit. Galatians 2 verse 20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. In Colossians 3 verse 3 we read:For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. We are alive in Him, Christ. From the dead resurrected people. De eternal death which hold us is gone and now we have eternal life in Christ. Think about this!! We have now Easter these days. Everyday it is for us members of the Body of Christ Easter!!

II Timothy 2 verse 12

If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him: if we deny Him, He also will deny us:

Verse 12: What is the meaning of this verse? If we suffer for Him, we shall also reign with Him. Reign with Him in all eternity. This is what us awaits if we suffer here on earth for Him, suffer like the apostle Paul for the Gospel of the Grace of God. What we must learn here is that this has nothing to do with our salvation. Our salvation is for all eternity in Him, in Christ. It is our walk dear brothers and sisters here on earth. What we do with His Word of Grace. Do we bear all evil what is being done to us and that we spiritually much suffer. Glory awaits us there in heaven when we are there!! What kind of work we going to do there in heaven we don't know exactly but we shall reign with Him if we continue to stand for the truth and proclaim it to others. And we shall judge angels! I Corinthians 6 verse 3. If we deny Him then we are like Peter who did this 3 times. We are no better than Peter. Sometimes maybe worser then him. He will also deny us! What is this what is written here? Personally I believe He cannot work in us if we say on a certain moment we don't know Him. It is on our own risk if we prove unfaithful to Him. Unfaithfulness has to do with our old nature but God remains faithful, He cannot deny Himself. He will warn us through His Word like our Lord did to Peter,  and make us think at a certain moment.

II Timothy 2 verse 13

If we believe not, yet He abideth faithful: He cannot deny himself.

Verse 13: If we believe not. There are moments in our lives that we are not trusting God but ourselves or trusting other persons instead to trust in God. In Jeremiah 17 we have interesting verses to read . In verse 5 we read: Thus saith theLord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from theLordThis is what we see here in the world and we see this very sharp under corrupt governments. In verse 9 of the same chapter we read: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? And in verse 7 and 8 we read: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.  For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. The good news here is that God cannot lie. In Titus 1 verse 2 and in Romans 3 verse  3 and 4 we read the following verses:  In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;  For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. God is not men that He can lie, He cannot deny Himself. God is true and every man is a liar because of the fact we are sinners. We are sons and daughters of Him and we will this stay in Christ. He sees us in Him righteous. Even if we make a mess of it He remains faithful. What a wonderful and faithful God we have. Praise Him for His Grace, for His faithfulness!!

II Timothy 2 verse 14

Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that

they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

Verse 14: The apostle Paul admonishes here Timothy: put them in remembrance. To remember someone is very important because another person forgets very quick and we also forget things quick. So to remember someone what Paul did here to Timothy was very important because there in Ephesus there was a lot of discussions and strive and this is not what God wants. Strive brings irritation and anger with him. It brings also removal and Timothy had to charge them before the Lord. It brings sometimes for the hearers confusion and that they later be confused. it doesn't leave a good impression upon others who will hear and it makes that listeners don't want to hear anymore. This is the effect of strive about words which to not profit. As leader Timothy had to be awake about this and to stop this strive so that the ones who are interested and wants to listen have the chance to learn God's Word of Grace.  In 2 Timothy 2 verses 23-25 we read:But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; Strive is something from our flesh, our old nature. We have to be lead by God's Spirit in this like Timothy. War of words and contention brings with it unreliability and it is not a tactic. We have to win people for Christ and for the Gospel of the Grace of God.

II Timothy 2 verse 15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth

not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Verse 15 This verse is the key to the Bible, God's Word!  Before we start explaining this you read this again for yourselves.  The person who understands this, stand for this and also works with it in daily life to study the Bible it helps him or her a lot to comprehend things of the Bible and it has a lot of effect on his or her life!! We read in 2 Timothy 3 verse 16-17 the  following verses:  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Are these 2 verses 2 Timothy 2: 15 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17 contradict each other? No they complement each other!  What does the word here in 2 Timothy 2:15 mean?  Let us carefully read this verse:

1) Study to shew thyself : the word study meant strive, or be diligent.

2) Approved unto God. To be tested unto God.

3) A workman we have to be

4) That needeth not to be ashamed.

5) Rightly dividing the Word of truth

Without this verse or to ignore this verse becomes a man in christ not perfect and all good work perfectly equipped. Without rightly dividing you don't learn the truth of God. Without this verse you are as believer on a wrong track. It is the key to the Bible. The whole Bible we can read adn study but it is very important from this verse is it also personally written to you as member of the Body of Christ or is it written to someone or people else? If we read the Bible we have to ask ourselves:

1 What I read what is it about?

2 We have to read in the context. The whole chapter!

3 To whom is it written and over whom is written?

4 Is it personally written to me or speaks God in that verse to other people or other persons?

We know God has administrations or oikonomia/ dispensations. Under these dispensations His  dealings with people are always different through the rules He give the people where He dealt with. We have to ask ourselves as believers in Christ under which Dispensation we live now?

And now the word rightly dividing: this word comes from the Greek word orthotemeo. It is ortho and temno. Ortho is right. It means to cut straight so as to divide truths on one side from those on the other. You have the words orthodox which means correct doctrine, orthography correct is correct spelling. Orthopaedie: correction of the skeleton bones. These are fractures of bones of the skeleton. Temno is from the Greek word and in English it is tomie. The word rightly dividing is to make a distinction. God has 2 plans. First a earthly plan and second a heavenly plan. The earthly plan is with His folk Israel with earthly hope, a Kingdom on earth and Christ as King 1000 year. The heavenly plan is with the Body of Christ and we as believers are members of that Body of Christ and also heavenly citizens. These two plans we have not to mix it with each other but divide them from each other. The heavenly program under which we live as members of the Body of Christ, the Church was known with God before the foundation of the world  but secret for men until the apostle Paul after the fall of Israel. The earthly program or plan God made known from Abraham. As we have heard is the fact that we live under that heavenly program. The best dividing is prophecy versus mystery. We live under the mystery program of God. We live under the Dispensation of Grace Ephesians 3: 1-3 which the apostle Paul made known to us through his epistles. We have to know very well what is prophecy and what is mystery. The mystery of God is that this was known by God before the foundation of the world and kept secret until Paul. The prophecy is made known by God from the foundation of the world.  What we have seen is that we live under the Mystery program of God and not under the prophecy. So we cannot mix prophecy with mystery and have to make a distinction between these two. We live now under the Dispensation of the Grace of God and this Dispensation of Grace endures almost 2000 years now. We cannot mix rules which God gives to us under this Oikomia or admnistration with the former Dispensation under which God different handled with people namely under the law, under the former Dispensation. Now we are not anymore under the law and we have to think about it that we cannot pick up again the law  Romans 6 verse 14 and 15 and make again rules for ourselves and someone else. What we have to do is to read and study the Bible in the light of the Pauline truth because we live under the Gospel of the Grace of God, under God's Grace through Christ. And we have to study like the Bereans which we can read in Acts 17: 10-11. Again without rightly dividing the Word of Truth there is no order in your life as believer in Christ because you don't know what is your position, where do I stand, under which program of God?  And you as believer think without knowing this verse that the Bible contradict itself and that some parts are very difficult in God's Word. With rightly dividing and you understand it very well the Bible becomes easier to read and study!!

II Timothy 2 verse 16

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Verse 16: What does this mean? But shun is to refuse profane and vain babblings. To to distance yourself from this. This is what Timothy as head of the church of Ephesus had to do and we too my brother and sister just like him we have to do the same. In 2 Timothy 2 verse 23 we read: But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient. This profane and vain babblings is like the cancer and creeps everywhere. So let us be busy with God's Word of Grace and the rightly divding the Word of Truth. Lies will increase in this world and will increase unto more ungodliness but we have to be awake like Timothy and not go into this and avoid them.

II Timothy 2 verse 17

And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

Verse 17: Foolish talks and words of  nonsense and lies keep going and penetrates everywhere like cancer. That's why this disease is so dangerous because it is really capricious. Who is Hymeaneus and Philetus. Hymeaneus is earlier named by the apostle Paul in I Timothy 1 verse 19-20 where we readHolding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. So Hymenaeus and Alexander blashemed and here Hymenaeus is named with Philetus and in the next verse we read what they did. They said and that we can read in the next verse that the resurrection is past already and overthrow the faith of some. Today we have a lot of those false doctrines and much more people believe them and also a lot of nonsense is proclaimed by people today. Also a lot of lies and the devil is working with it because he is still the father of lies. It keeps people away from the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God Colossians 1:5-6.

II Timothy 2 verse 18

Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

Verse 18: Who concerning the truth have erred. The truth doesn't say us that the resurrection is past already. It does say this must come in the future I Corinthians 15:51-54: Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. But with the saying that the resurrection is past already they overthrow the faith of some. The result of this is that some people begin to believe this and fell from the truth and begin to believe this lie. The devil is the one who is behind this and he will do anything to stop it so that people come not to the truth or fall away from it.  Here the apostle Paul is speaking of two or three persons who did this. Nowadays we have a lot of those people who do this.

II Timothy 2 verse 19

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal,The Lord knoweth them

that are His. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Verse 19: The Lord knows them that are His. This is the foundation of God and that standeth for sure. He knows Who are His sons and daughters. We cannot judge who is a believer or not if we have not spoken to someone and have heard from the other person that he or she believes not.  It is not our task to judge people. The One who does this is our Lord. Brothers and sisters in our Lord let us depart from iniquity. That means to keep distance from it. The whole world is evil and a lot of people do unrighteous things. We are different because we are in Christ and we have to stand for this and depart from unrighteous or corrupt things. In Ephesians 4 verse 20 and 21 we read: But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus" Brothers and sisters let us depart from iniquity, from lies, from unrighteousness what others do in this world who don't believe in Christ and are strangers and enemies from the cross. Let us do the will of God!

II Timothy 2 verse 20

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also

of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

Verse 20: What does this verse mean? The apostle Paul is speaking here about the Body of Christ. This is to compare with a house.  There are members in the Body of Christ. They are vessels. Some of them are vessels of gold, silver but you have also vessels of wood and of earth. Some vessels, members are bringing honor to God  and some dishonor. The sincere child of God will desire to be a vessel unto honour. But how can he or she do this? The answer we will find in the next verse.

II Timothy 2 verse 21

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour,

sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Verse 21: These are the ones who treat the Word irresponsibly and overthrow the faith of some people by subverting their hearers. These are not vessels of honour. Now the sincere believer have to stand seperate from such persons. sanctified or set apart and secred to God that he shall be a vessel unto honour and that God can work in this believer. God wants no persons who are not set apart as sacred to Himself. In I Thessalonians 5 verse 23 we read: And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The believer in Christ must have the desire: I want to be wholly Thine. Then he or she can be a vessle of honor, be used by God and prepared unto every good work.

II Timothy 2 verse 22

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity,

peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Verse 22: Timothy was still a young man and in the first place the apostle says here to him: Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace. These are the fruits of the Spirit. Youthful lusts are things from the flesh. Sometimes it was very difficult for Timothy to choose and the apostle Paul admonishes here him in it. It is also for us my dear brothers and sisters. Not all of us are young men or women but we can do the same and are here also admonished by the apostle Paul. And do these things to follow righteousness, faith, charity that is love and peace with all that call on the Lord of a pure heart. We have to find people like this who are willingly want to serve the Lord and where you see the fruit of the Spirit in them.

II Timothy 2 verse 23

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

Verse 23: This is a very important verse here which the apostle Paul in the first place wrote to Timothy, his beloved son in the faith. Not only Timothy it is written here, also to us as members of the Body of Christ, the Church. If we learn the Gospel of the Grace of God Acts 20:24, Romans 16:25-62 and stand for it to gain understanding in God's Word and we know then also what is unlearned and foolish questions. We have to avoid those questions. Don't go into it because that gender strifes and that is not good because the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient. We have for example not to discuss about waterbaptism or to be filled with the Holy Spirit (for some it is to speak in tongues, to heal people) or something about the Law. So we have to avoid such questions or comments because this is not to build up but to break! We have to give a clear answer but not to discuss about it.

II Timothy 2 verse 24

And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

Verse 24: Here we have the continuation of verse 23! If we want to be a servant, a soldier of Jesus Christ according God's Gospel of Grace we have not to strive or discuss. This lead to anger and worser. We as servants of the Lord has to be gentle to all men. Not only believers , also unbelievers! Sometimes this is very difficult in this life to be gentle to everyone. What very important is to be gentle. In Philippians 4 verse 5 we read: Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. This means be patient. With gentleness and patience we can reach more people then with strife and anger. We have to learn this because it is not naturally in us. We have to lead ourselves by God's Spirit Who lives in us and the Word of God. Philippians 2: 13-15: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; And what also important is is this: Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Apt to teach. Fit, adapted, qualified. This means that it is very important that we as servants or soldiers of God through our Lord Jesus Christ to be learned in the Gospel of the Grace of God. We have first to know all the basis and rightly dividing the Word of Truth 2 Timothy 2:15 and also if we want be really a servant of God we have to go to Bibleschool so that we can learn more and more about God's Word. On the Bibleschool you learn also how to deal with people.

II Timothy 2 verse 25

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God

peradventure will  give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Verse 25: In meekness! What is that in meekness? Meekness is essentially an attitude or quality of heart whereby a person is willing to accept and submit without resistance to the will and desire of someone else. With God's help everyday instructing those that oppose themselves. The ones who are against the Gospel of the Grace of God and don't know about rightly dividing. To be friendly is very important in this because God works through us and it could be by the Word of God that people  repent and come to the acknowledging of the truth. Friendly words here are very important. The more friendly and patience we have the more the other person who oppose it will realize that this senseless to strive against the Gospel of salvation, the Gospel of Grace! So heated debates we don't have to carry as servants of the Lord. The attitude is very important and the one who oppose it will see this and begin to think. With family or relatives this is very difficult because this is own but to let see a attitude of meekness and patience is enough most of the times when you meet them. God can give them repentance and that they come to the truth! We read again this in Philippians 2 verses 14-16:  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

II Timothy 2 verse 26

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Verse 26: This is the continuation of verse 25: That they who are in the snare of the devil come out of this. Most people are in this: the snare of the devil and are captive by him at his will. The question is then how do they come out of this? By simple believing the Gospel of the Grace of God and come to know how to read the Bible, God's Word. First there must be desire to learn more from God's Word and a desire to get rid of all the false doctrine they are in. That they begin to recognize what they believe is not true but false. The Word of God's Grace must be brought in such a way that people begin to convinced about this that this is the truth. When I heard the Gospel of the Grace of God in that time I was searching for the truth and the person who spoke for the first time the truth to me came with a lot of conviction that I couldn't bring anything against it. It was God that spoke to me directly from His Word and that was the reason that I became convinced and received it. And I am very happy that this happened in my life. Otherwise it was from the one false doctrine to the other false doctrine.

II Timothy 3 verse 1

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

Verse 1: The apostle Paul foretells in the verses here in this Chapter that in the last days perilous times shall come. Which last days are spoken here? In the Christian world, in churches men speak about the end of times and that we as believers are waiting for our Lord on earth to reign as King and before this we go hald through the tribulation period, that there are signs now before His coming to earth. But is this true my dear brothers and sisters? Are there now signs in the world that our Lord will come very soon to earth or to come to take us from the earth to Himself?  What we see is the last days here and that there will be periolous times. Let us begin with the fact that we live under the Dispensation of the Grace of God. Let us see what God says to us in Ephesians 3 verse 1-3 and we read:For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words." What the apostle Paul foretells in the last days. These are the last days of the Dispensation of Grace whereunder we still live now. We live now in these perilous times and it becomes more difficult in this world wherein we live. God is still working with the Dispensation of Grace. Now is the time of salvation II Corinthians 6:1-2. We see however around us that it gets harder and for us to live under this is more difficult if we compare this with 30 years ago. The technology is the last 30 years very forward: Internet, mobile network. Life is becoming more faster . Without cellphones (smartphones) , computers we cannot live and work anymore. More and more electric cars we see on the road and most in these cars is computerized. Through this all less people in this world read and study the Scriptures of God, the Bible. Few people want to live according God's truth! Colossians 1:5-6.

II Timothy 3 verse 2

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,

blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Verse 2: What will happen in the last days of this Dispensation of Grace whereunder we live? In this verse we see the first words: men shall be lovers of their own selves. This is what we see around us in this world my brothers and sisters! People are becoming more and more egocentric. The motto is if I'm right. What do I care about someone else? This is what you see. I see it also on my work in the hospital. The interest in each other is often hard to find and the interest for patients is sometimes also hard to find. This is what I see.  Covetous. The meaning of this is that people are never satisfied and want more and more. Not only money but also to have more  things like bigger cars and other expensive things.  Boasters: to praise oneself extravagantly in speech. This is what you see a lot in this world now. Proud: this goes without saying. Through such a attitude it is for a lot of people in this world very difficult to leave this and to receive Christ as Savior. Blashemers: Like Paul was before his conversion. We see that this increase. It begins from an early age. Disobedient to parents.This has to do with the fact that many parents don't teach their kids respect. Another reason is that parents do not show authority so that this happens. We have nowadays a lot of broken families through divorce etc. Unthankful that is that people are never satisfied and have not learned to be thankful. Unholy: most people in this world are unholy, unbelievers. Ungodliness increases in this world. What is our attitude in this: We read in Philippians 2 verse 14 and 15 the following verses: Do all things without murmurings and disputings:  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

II Timothy 3 verse 3

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good

Verse 3: In this verse we read a continuation of verse 2 before. It is what in general happens and how men are. Men are sinners and this is what we nowadays see in this broken world. No affection to others/strangers. Not lovers of people. People in general are making peace with each other. We see wars, we see a lot of divorces in what way nowadays. A lot of people because of all this get depressed, see no hope anymore for themselves. False accusers: also do you see this in lawsuits so that the designated culprit sometimes sentenced for years and it turns out that the culprit not quilty is. Incontinent: without self control. Fierce: violent. Despisers of those that are good: without love for those who are good. Doing things good for you. This is what we see nowadays and there is a reason for this because in the first place there are more people in the world than in Paul's days. We have now a lot of social media today.  We know now very fast what is going on in the whole world through internet, facebook, twitter and other things. In the past 50 years ago you knew a lot less than now!! This is something to think about it.

II Timothy 3 verse 4

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Verse 4 Here is another verse of the continuation. Traitors=Greek word is prodotai and we see this back in Acts 7 verse 52 where we read: Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:   Betrayers are people who other persons to inform against. A example of this is in the Second World War an in that war a lot of Dutch people were betrayers of men. Now the word heady: thwarted, stubbornly. Highminded: proud, arrogance. Lovers of pleasures: lovers of themselves and pleasures: that can be everything. But to love God and His Word there is no place in their heart for this. They think that they don't need Him in their lives. We see nowadayd as ambassadors for Christ that this increase in the world wherein we live.

II Timothy 3 verse 5

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Verse 5: Brothers and sisters we live in a world that is religious. Most wars are based on religion in any form. Less people are busy with God's Word and what God says to us through His Word. Godliness is that you as believer are devoutness and moral uprightness. Real godliness under the Dispensation of Grace whereunder we still live is to be devout and moral upright according to God's Gospel of Grace through the apostle Paul in his epistles given to us as members of the Body of Christ. Unfortunately you have in this world a lot of people who do the opposite but do the things which are written before this verse and have a form of godliness. The point is that they deny the power of godliness thereof. They don't know God and aren't saved. In these days with the feast days of Easter we saw it also on internet or TV: a lot of people have in those days a religious feeling, even leaders of countries. Also people who believe in religion in what way if it is Christendom or Muslim, Buddism. It looks very nice but it means nothing. For us brothers and sisters we have a verse what we make our own and that is in Romans 12 verse 1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, whcih is your reasonable service. This is what we have to do in our daily life as members of the heavenly Church. The form that people try to be religious is a form of godliness but has no power and is not reality because people deny the power of the real godliness.  They don't know Christ. We have to keep distance from this people. This will not say we cannot talk to them. It's important to talk to them because we can pointing them to the truth that is in Christ through the Gospel of the Grace of God!

II Timothy 3 verse 6

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

Verse 6: This is continuation of the former verse 5. For of this sort: the people who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. They creep into houses secretly and mislead silly women who are full of sins and are led on by various emotional impulses, "various sorts" of lusts. This could be on sexually or other kind of lusts. From this people we have to keep distance. We see this in the world and in the world it is having power, money, liquor, drugs, women. Timothy was warned of this and this happened also in Ephesus and in more places in the old Roman Empire and nowadays nearly 2000 year later it is the same because most people believe not in God and in His Word.

II Timothy 3 verse 7

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Verse 7: People, persons who always learn but laden with sins and desires. From the ouside it looks beautiful but meanwhile serving sin and apply hypocrisy in their lives so that it seems that they are holy. They are never able to come to the knowledge of the truth , the Gospel of the Grace of God I Timothy 2:3-4 which is God's will. They are not able because they have not the intention to learn it. Instead of this they tell others lies.

II Timothy 3 verse 8

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist

the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

Verse 8: Jannes and Jambres. These men were the wizards of Egypt in the time of Pharaoh when Moses stood before Pharaoh. They resisted what Moses told and did before them (inclusive Pharaoh). In Exodus 7 verse 22 we read the following verse: And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as theLord had said. Like those men we have persons who resist the truth which are men with corrupt minds, an unprincipled or depraved person concerning the faith. Withstand the truth and never come to the knowledge of the truth!

II Timothy 3 verse 9

But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.

Verse 9: These opposers who resist the truth of God now shall proceed no further. What does this mean? In these last days of the Dispensation of Grace wherein we live much people has a form of godliness. We see this also with world leaders. It is a lot of hypocrysie. Much people are going to church or to a chapel nowadays to light a candle for a loved one who has died. It is a sort kind of symbolic and people get a religious feeling when they do this.  No matter how fast the lie the truth finds it out and this shall be manifest unto all men like it was with Jambres and Jannes. It will come to the light and God will do this.

II Timothy 3 verse 10

But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

Verse 10: In this verse the apostle Paul admonishes Timothy in spite off the difficulties Timothy had to deal with in Ephesus. It is also for us my dear brothers and sisters. We live in thesse last days of this Dispensation of Grace!  The apostle Paul says Thou hast fully known my doctrine. The doctrine of Gods Grace. In Romans 16 verse 25 and 26 we see it more sharper:Now to Him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:  This is what the apostle Paul preached, proclaimed: the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began. This is the Gospel of today my brothers and sisters. Read Galatians 1: 6-9. Another Gospel than this Gospel don't exist! Now the words manner of life: the apostle Paul says here the walk in the Lord Jesus Christ and how he proclaimed it to the people. Purpose: this the goal. The purpose was and is to proclaim the Gospel of the Grace of God so that (in Pauls time) it came to Europe. Nowdays we have the desire to proclaim the Gospel of God's Grace worldwide. We have now a great medium to proclaim this and that is through internet. So that everyone in this world come to know the Gospel of God's Grace.  Faith: This is the faith in Christ in His finished work on the cross for us! Lonsuffering: this has to do with a lot of patience always. To let God do the work in us we can have this longsuffering. The apostle Paul is our greatest example in this. Charity: this is agape. The Love of God through Christ. To give, give and expect nothing back. Patience: through God we can have this. From ourselves we have no patience.  Under the circumstances Timothy (and we too) must behave like Paul through God's Spirit who was working in Paul and also in Timothy. It is to be led by God's Spirit whereby we are sealed to the day of redemption. Ephesians 4 verse 30

II Timothy 3 verse 11

Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra;

what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

Verse 11: This verse is a continuation of verse 10 above. Not only just like Timothy we have to follow the apostle in the doctrine, manner of life but also in persecutions, afflictions. The apostle Paul had many persecutions and afflictions. It was foretold by our Lord in Acts 9 verse 15 and 16 to Ananias: But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. The apostle Paul suffered a lot and he suffered more then any other of us in the Body of Christ. He suffered for the Gospel of the Grace of God and for the Mystery he proclaimed Acts 20:24, Romans 16:25-26. In Acts 13 verse 44 and 45 we read what happened in Antioch: And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. In the following verse we read:Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. And in the verses following:For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region. But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts. The Gentiles wanted to listen to Gods Word and many came to believe in Christ as Savior. The Jews were against God and against the preaching of the Good news of the cross, the deeper meaning of it. And what they did? They set people against Paul and Barnabas. First women who were religious and important women and men in the city of Antioch. It was a dangerous situation for Paul and Barnabas and this was real suffering.  In Acts 13 verse 51-52 we read:But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost. And then in Iconium. In Acts 14 we read that Paul and Barnabas were on the Sabbath in the synagoge and there was a multitude and heard the Word of Gods Grace and many believed. This let you see that God's Word has a great power. It is like dynamite!! It has influence on people. Read for yourselves Hebrews 4:12. Now we read further and there we seeBut the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren. Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,  You see my brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ what a persecution the apostle undergo almost to death. What a hate from men to the Gospel of the Grace of God and today it is the same. The big oppressor satan does everything in its power to withhold the truth and tell people the lie.  In Lystra and Derbe  we read in Acts 14 verses 5-20 what happened there that at least Paul was stoned and men thought he was dead but after a while Paul stood up. In 2 Timothy 2 verse 8-9 we read: Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. The Word of God is not bound. People can kill us but the Word of God they cannot destroy because this will never end. In II Corinthians 1 verses 8-10 we read: For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; The apostle Paul trusted complete in the living Lord and we can follow him therein because still God is Living!!!

II Timothy 3 verse 12

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Verse 12: This is reality what the apostle Paul here is saying. All the ones of us who will really serve our Lord Jesus Christ according to the Mystery and stand for the Gospel of the Grace of God shall suffer persecution. The apostle Paul suffered most of us for the Gospel of the Grace of God or the Mystery which he proclaimed to this world.  In my life I have the experience that I am as believer in Christ ignored by people. This is also a form of persecution spiritual. The real thing in this is that people don't want to learn the truth: the Gospel of the Grace of God and the whole Mystery of God . It is His will that people not only come to believe but also learn the truth 1 Timothy 2: 3-4 but the practice is now that people in general want to hear only the lie and have itching ears. A single person wants to learn more. This is my experience with people. Gods Word of Grace, the truth Colossians 1: 5-6 must find its way here in the Netherlands but instead of this few people here are interested in it and want to study this. This is what happened and the main reason is that the devil withhold this Gospel of the Grace of God. He is the greatest and biggest enemy and is and is behind the false teachings. So our fight is against him and his lies and not against flesh and blood. Luckily we have the freedom to believe this here in this country so it is very important not to stop but to continue to proclaim the Gospel of Gods Grace Acts 20:24, 32

II Timothy 3 verse 13

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Verse 13: Here the apostle Paul foretold 2000 years ago that evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse. Yes we see it in the world: a lot of evil men because tere are more inhabitans in this world. Everyday we hear and see about crimes, wars who will continue. This is increasing because men are evil. These are unbelievers, those who are without God in this world. In the time of Paul you had also those people but there were in that time not so much people as they are now. Paul warns here Timothy for this because he was the leader of the church at Ephesus. Men how deceive others and being deceived by our enemy the devil. Weak persons are very easy to deceive with lies then persons who are strong in the faith. Lies and deceiving is on the order of the day today my brother and sister. We have to be awake for this stand firm for the Gospel of God's Grace.

II Timothy 3 verse 14
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been

assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

Verse 14: But continue thou! This is a admonishing not to stop what hte apostle Paul says here in the first place to Timothy and also to us who live now and are also members of the Body of Christ I Corinthians 12:13,27. What should Timothy and we continue with? The things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of. This is Gods Word of Grace, the Gospel of the Grace of God, the rightly dividing the Word of Truth Acts 20:24, 32, Romans 16:25-26, Ephesians 3:1-3, 2 Timothy 2:15. The truth, he Timothy must continue in spite of everything in the truth and proclaim it, make it known and so we are also admonished to do the same!!! Timothy and we as members of the Body of Christ my brothers and sisters are assured of this. Timothy knew exactly he has learned this from Paul and we have also learned this from the apostle Paul through his epistles. Timothy learned in the first place also from this grandmother and mother the Word of God. We see this in the next verses. People told us brothers and sisters in the past about the Gospel of the Grace of God and we are very thankful for this and now we have to continue in this whatever will happen in the future.

II Timothy 3 verse 15

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make

thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Verse 15: Timothy had learned the Holy Scriptures when he was a child. In II Timothy 1 verse 5 we read again the following verse: When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Timothy learned this from his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. This made him wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. It is so important to learn your children the Holy Scriptures my brothers and sisters from their youth on, on a very young age!! That you train, to learn your children the truth and the rightly dividing the Word of Truth.  It is the wisdom of God and this is wiser than men. Personaly I heard also the Holy Scriptures as a child but not as Timothy that I was learned by my parents. Later when I was a believer in the age of 21 I learned the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God. Not my parents learned me this but other believers told me this and I am still very thankful for this. Timothy's mother and grandmother were examples for him and later with Paul he learned the whole wisdom of God which protected him for false doctrines. And we too my brothers and sisters!!

II Timothy 3 verse 16 and 17

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Verse 16 and 17: If you merge verse 16 with II Timothy 2 verse 15:Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, then it is good but if you only believe in this verse then it is still not working in your life my brother and sister! In the past I wrote a Dutch Reformed pastor about rightly dividing and that this merge with this verse here he told me that he only used this verse and nothing else. So he ignored the rightly dividing which is the key to understanding the Bible!  We read here all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. The whole Bible is inspired by God. God told 40 writers to write the Bible, His Word. He told them exactly what they had to write down. God is the Author of the Bible. It is His inspired Word and this Word is profitable in the first place for doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness. We can only understand God's Word if we have God's Spirit inside. Let us read I Corinthians 2 verse 14 and 15: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. And in Romans 10 verse 17 we learn: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. God's Word goes together with Gods Spirit. Through the Word of God we know what is our position in Christ as members of the heavenly Church brothers and sisters. We learn the doctrine of Grace, we learn deeper things of His Word, we get more and more insight if we study the Word of God daily!! That we become perfect and wiser in daily life with God and that is the walk with Him. And to stand in His Work always abounding Ephesians 2 verse 10!! So let us be led by Gods Spirit Who is in us through His Word! We have always when we the Bible, the Scriptures study to whom and to whom is spoken. Is this Scripture spoken to me personally or not. Also we have always to see what is it about. To read the whole chapter in the context. 2 Timothy 2:15.

II Timothy Chapter 4

II Timothy 4 verse 1

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who

shall judge  the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

Verse 1: This is the last and final chapter the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy and also to the Body of Christ. Also the last words what he wrote in his life because he was on the end of his life just before his execution under Nero. Paul sees the end of his life draw near. He is in prison, in a dungeon and in chains. It is in the dungeon cold and chilly. Physically it goes probably not good with him. This chapter are his last words and the last instructions for Timothy and also for us as members of the Body of Christ. It is a farewell of the most faithful soldier of our Lord Jesus Christ who ever lived.  He said here I charge thee therfore before God. God is his Witness. Nothing was a lie what the apostle Paul had written and said to people. All what he wrote down was inspired by God Who was with him all the time and also in the dungeon. God will judge through our Lord Jesus Christ the quick and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom. The first appearing is for the Body of Christ. He will judge us at the Bema wherefore we must stand before and at the Kingdom: when He shall stand on the Mount of Olives with His feet and everyone shall see Him. Revelation 1 verse 7. He shall judge the living and the dead: the unbelievers with the White Throne Revelation 20:11-15

II Timothy 4 verse 2

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Verse 2: What has Timothy to do in the first place. In spite of all the diffuclties and pressure and persecutions he had the preach the Word! And we too if we know the truth like him we have to preach it in this time, in 2022 too! In spite of difficulties we have, more and more opposition to the truth, more and more people hate the Bible should we stand up like Paul, Luke and Timothy and others who are our examples and we have to preach the Gospel of the Grace of God like they did and never stopped. Acts 20:32 tells us: And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Preach the Word of God also rightly dividing 2 Timothy 2:15! We can read and teach the whole Bible in the light of the Pauline truth which is the truth of God for today!!! What does it mean be instant in season, out of season? It means be alert, be awake as you preach the Word of God. It is a great responsibility for the one of us who preach the Word of God. What a pity that so many preachers today preach not the truth and  get paid well with the lies they preach. I will say to al those preachers: Come to the knowledge of the truth of God! Acknowledge that you preach lies and learn the truth, the Gospel of Gods Grace!! Reprove: Reprove implies an often kindly intent to correct a fault. He had also to rebuke: an expression of strong disapproval with patience. Exhort with all long suffering and doctrine: urge strongly with the sound doctrine with again patience. Not only are those words for Timothy in the first place. Now is the right time my brothers and sisters to follow these instructions which were given in the first place to Timothy. We need to follow these instructions here in this verse and be not afraid of reaction of people because we are more than conquerors in Him Romans 8 verse 37. The world become worser and worser and we are in Christ. Let Him shine through us to other people around us.

II Timothy 4 verse 3

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after

their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Verse 3: For the time will come. The time the apostle Paul here is speaking is what we see now in this world. People in general indeed will not endure sound doctrine. What is sound doctrine? Romans 16 verse 25 is the answer for this question:Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began. It is the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery!! This is the sound Doctrine and people will not endure it. This is what we see world wide but also near. Here in the Netherlands where I live whole my life, I see that most people even not have interest in reading the Bible. There is now at this moment one more foundation that gives out the Old Translation Dutch Bible. In the past 20 or 30 years ago you had 4 or 5 foundations who gave out this translation. The Old Translation is like the King James near the original Bible. It was through this Bible that people in the Netherlands learn the language! Now this translation is ignored  and most people who have a Bible have new translations in modern Dutch language. Through all these modern translations people see no need to come to believe and in these translations a lot of the original Scripture is omitted. There a few people here who want to read and study the Bible, God's Word and want to know the truth which is that sound Doctrine which the apostle Paul preached and what he told us in Romans 16:25: The preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the Mystery. The apostle Paul preached this almost 2000 years ago and saw that this would happen. The last 30 years here in the Netherlands a lot of people left churches for many reasons. This will not say that they don't believe in God or are not saved. We cannot judge it. God will do that in the future. A lot of these churches have no Biblical answers for abortus, euthanasia, cremation, homosexuality etc and that is for people reasons to leave. On the other hand people like preachers that sound good to the ear: having itching ears. After their own lusts (emotional) they heap to themselves teachers. This is also what you see. In general in the next generation after me we don't see many younger people at all reading en studying the Bible let alone the truth which is the sound Doctrine. The media has contributed to this that people in general don't read anymore. It makes it very difficult to preach the truth, the sound doctrine in such circumstances. Satan is hard trying to withhold people from the truth in several ways and the media through our smartphones (Facebook, Twitter)  is one of the biggest of it. The ego of men also plays a major role in this!

II Timothy 4 verse 4

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Verse 4: People shall turn away their ears from the truth. The apostle Paul foretold here what would happen in the future and we see after his departure from this world that this happened. Till the end of the 19 th Century and beginning 20 th Century the truth was ignored. People en masse ignored the truth. The sound Doctrine or the Gospel of the Grace of God was till that time ignored because people turned away their ears from the truth. People in general like fables and nonsense and lies. They laugh about dirty stories from others. We saw it on TV this week. They can laugh about a comic who tells them nonsense and acting weird on stage. They like the lies and not the truth. That's why a few people come to know the truth: The Word of truth, the Sound Doctrine! Colossians 1:5-6, Romans 16:25-26. Most people turn away their ears from the truth and that is just what satan wants: to keep people away from the truth and let them believe the lie, the fables. This is reality my brothers and sisters and this is not act negative! This is what we see. The new generations in general don't believe in God. For example here in the Netherlands less than 50% people believe in God. This let you see that most people don't need a Savior in their lives. What are fables? These are made-up stories, fabrications. This is the conclusion my brothers and sisters and it is sad, very sad. In the beginnen of the 20 th Century for most people the Bible was very important because they rediscovered the truths in it. Now the Bible in general on the background and it looks that no one who needs more. But nevertheless let us hold on the Sound Doctrine, the wonderful Gospel of the Grace of God and keep standing for it like Paul did and how he Timothy admonished to stay in the Sound Doctrine.

II Timothy 4 verse 5

But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Verse 5: But, there is a change here. For us as believers, ambassadors for Christ there is something more beautiful to do. If we look only to this world we become sad but this is not what we have to do. That's why the apostle Paul not only admonished Timothy here in this verse, also us who are also ambassadors for God: Watch thou in all things. Stay awake with other words!!! Don't sleep as others! How difficult the times are now! We have not to be busy with lies, nonsense and fables but have to be busy with God's Word and the Word of God rightly dividing 2 Timothy 2:15. We have to endure afflictions. We have to have patience also in difficult circumstances. We have to do the work of an evangelist. To make known the Glory of the cross to everyone who wants to listen. We have like Timothy to stand for the truth and make people awake. Everyone of us can do this. Tell the truth, the sound doctrine and tell what you know and believe and not what you don't know because then the lies come forward. Make full proof of thy ministry! That no person say something evil about you and about your own ministry brother/sister. The last of this verse has to do with reliability. If we are reliable in our ministries this will people convince that what we preach and stand for that this is the truth. In this we have the words of 2 Timothy 2 verse 3: Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. Brothers and sisters let us continue in the sound doctrine and follow Paul as example who suffered a lot till the death for the Gospel of the Grace of God and that he was never afraid to die for it Acts 20:24.

II Timothy 4 verse 6

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

Verse 6: The apostle Paul, in prison in Rome waiting for his death. Good news: he was ready to be offered. He was not afraid to die physically. He was ready for it, his future was promotion to glory, to be in heaven with the Lord and so is ours my dear brothers and sisters! Glory to be unto God!! In his time he was a old man when he wrote these words to Timothy. We don't know exactly how old he was. We read in Philemon verse 9 the following verse: Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. He Paul was the biggest evangelist of all times through the preaching of God's Gospel of Grace was on the end of his life here on earth and knew what would happen: his departure was at hand. When this would happen he didn't know but what he knew was this he was ready to be offered. Most people before they naturally die they know that they end this life very soon. Paul was in prison, in a dungeon in Rome. The circumstances were bad there. He was in chains because of the secret of the Gospel, the glory of the cross of Christ which he proclaimed to this world. In Acts 20 verse 24 he said already: But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus , to testify the Gospel of the Grace of God. Paul never counted his life dear unto himself. He would finish his course with joy and the ministry and now this was the end here in II Timothy 4! He was never afraid the apostle. Why not because this is naturally? Most people are afraid to die. But when you know just as the apostle Paul that our are more than conquerors are in Christ you are never afraid of things. Fear has something to do with our flesh but we have to give place to it. My mother died last year and she was not afraid to die, she was ready to go to the Lord Jesus Christ and on those moments the last day of her life she told us this and not only us but everyone who came in her room where she later departed from this life. I am so thankful for her that she was so convinced about this! God convinced her from His Word and she was not afraid anymore. Romans 8:37! And this my brothers and sisters we may also know this also applies to us. Read Romans 8 verses 38-39!

II Timothy 4 verse 7

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith

Verse 7: This verse sometimes we read in obituary. How people interpret this that's what I most of the times will know. Anyway for the apostle Paul this was reality: He had fought the good fight and personally I am 100% convinced what he was saying here. These were his last words to Timothy and to us as members of the Body of Christ. He had finished his course, he had kept the faith. The Faith in Christ. Finished his course: the ministry. He Paul had stood for the truth, for the secret for the Gospel of the Grace of God, the glory of the cross of Christ. He had never left the truth of God. He had never give up, he was always abounding in the work of the Lord. What a example this man Paul was and is for us as members of the Body of Christ! He urges us also to follow in his footsteps as he followed Christ after the revelation of the Mystery Romans 16:25-26! In I Corinthians 4 verses 15 and 16 we read: For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. Let me tell you brother and sister: you have a lot of teachers, preaches follow and hear and listen to what they say there is but one person you have really to follow today and this is the apostle Paul! You can hear preachers proclaim a mix of gospels you never will be build up! The Gospel of the Grace of God which the apostle Paul proclaimed is the Gospel for today and is you daily spiritual food. Nothing else. Another Gospel exist not. We read Galatians 1 verse 6 and 7: I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the Gospel of Christ

II Timothy 4 verse 8

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge,

shall  give  me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Verse 8: Oh, the apostle looked to that day that he would receive the crown of righteous from the Lord, the righteous judge will give him. When would that be? At the Bema just after the Rapture of the Church. All of us inclusive the apostel Paul shall stand before the Bema, before Christ. All of us that is the whole Body of Christ: the ones who are living and the ones who sleep in Christ. On that day we shall give a account to the Lord and He will judge it. Paul preached at first the secret of the Gospel of the Grace of God and introduced the rightly dividing the Word of truth Acts 20:24, II Timothy 2:15, Romans 16:25-26. Whole his life from his conversion he defended the truth and never stopped telling it!!He was convinced there was a crown of righteousness waiting for him in heaven and the Lord will give it to him and not only he but all the ones who will love His appearing. Who believe in the Rapture of the Church. The Paul was really looking for this at the end of his life. He didn't know the Dispensation of Grace would endure till now almost 2000 years later. For us this will be also be a glad, a really glad and blessed day be when we shall meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that he would will give the crown of righteousness!!!

2 Timothy 4 verse 9

Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:

Verse 9: The apostle Paul calls here Timothy as soon as possible to go to him in Rome. Timothy was in Ephesus. We don't know if Timothy was just in time to see his father in the faith before he went to be with the Lord.  The time of Paul's departure was very near and the apostle Paul felt this good. Soon his life was over here on earth. Timothy and Luke and others had to continue in the Gospel of Grace to proclaim also after his departure. It was cold and dirty in that dungeon the apostle Paul was. He was  a prisoner in bonds but he said the Word of God is never bound. The apostle Paul again was in appalling conditions there in Rome. Probably it became winter too  because in verse 21 we read: Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren. It was still autumn but the weather became colder and in such a dungeon it was more colder than outside. To thy diligence. What does that mean? Timothy had to strive to come very quickly to Paul to visit him before it was to late. Timothy had to take this very serious. It is the same if we have to go quickly to someone who is dying that we see him or her before it is to late. We, my wife and me did it on the last day of my mother and that was very good that we did this. She didn't want us to leave so we stayed almost just before she left this world and to be with the Lord. We were glad and thankful that we did this.

2 Timothy 4 verse 10

For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed

unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

Verse 10: Demas hath forsaken, left Paul. This does mean that he not only broke the contact with Paul but also left the Gospel of the Grace of God. He wouldn't longer stay for the Gospel of the Gace of God, the truth of God. The reason was that he loved this present world more than God and His Word of Grace. Demas was a brother in Christ and a comrade of the apostle Paul. In Colossians 4 verse 14 we read: Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. But on one day Demas left Paul and wished no longer to stand for the truth. It will not say that he was no brother in the Lord. He Demas was saved forever just like us. He went to Thessalonica to satisfy his flesh. Oh how much people like Demas heard the Gospel of God's Grace and after a while left it and went their own way or loved the world more than this? It has also consequences and everyone of us has to give a account to our Lord Jesus Christ at the Bema.  God will judge there righteous. We leave this to Him. Now Crescens he went to Galatia. This will not say that he left the Gospel of Grace. We just read that he went to Galatia. Titus unto Dalmatia. Titus was not anymore on Crete. It was for the apostle Paul on the end of his life very sad to tell Timothy about Demas and his leaving from the truth. In II Timothy 1 verse 8 we read: Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the power of God.  Let this be a lesson for us brothers and sisters!

2 Timothy 4 verse 11

Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

Verse 11: The only person who was with Paul in prison, in the dungeon was Luke. Luke was all those years with the apostle Paul. Luke was a physician, a doctor. You can use him as a personal physician for the apostle Paul. He was a beloved doctor. In Colossians 4 verse 14 we read: Luke , the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. He, Luke was a great help for the apostle in all those years and now also in the imprisonments of the apostle Paul. Not only to stand for the Gospel of the Grace of God stood Luke but also for practical help he was there. Oh that we have more persons like him in this world now today! He was and is really a example. When Timothy should come to Paul he must bring Mark with him. Mark was changed and he was to became profitable for Paul and for the ministry. He was unprofitable and had left Paul and Barnabas on one of their first journeys Acts 15: 36-41. Later Marcus came to repentance and became profitable for the ministry and for Paul. Paul would meet him before he ended his life here on earth.  Probably Mark was also in Ephesus where Timothy was.

2 Timothhy 4 verse 12

And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.

Verse 12: Paul had send Tychikus to Ephesus probably to encourage the believers and build them up. Who was Thychikus? In Acts 20 verse 4 for the first time we read about him: And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. He, Tychikus with Trophimus came from Asia, now Turkey. Probably he came from Colossae. In Colossians 4 verse 7-8 we read: All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord: Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts; Tychikus was a beloved brother and faithful servant of Jesus Christ and could well encourage the hearts of believers. He had already proved this in Colossae and now the apostle Paul send him to Ephesus to do the same! Oh, we have to have more persons like Tychikus today who has the courage and mood to encourage brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ, to tell them the truth, the sound doctrine, the Gospel of the Grace of God Acts 20:24, 32. Romans 16:25-26!

2 Timothy 4 verse 13

The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.

Verse 13: Bring the cloke of me. This is what the apostle Paul at first asked Timothy to do when he would visit Paul in the dungeon. The circumstances in the dungeon where Paul was were terrible: cold, dirty and the weather became colder because it was almost winter. The cloke Paul really needed against the cold. He had left the cloke at Troas with Carpus. The apostle Paul was in prison the second time and it was no longer possible that he was released again as after his first prisonment. This verse gives you the impression that he was for a time free man between his first imprisonment and the second imprisonment. The apostle's end of his life was near and that's why he asked Timothy to bring the cloke, the books and especially the parchments to him. On the parchments the scriptures were written. Books on that time were written on papyrus. Why he had left all those things there the only reason is that that he was captured again and on the moment of his capture again he had no time to take all those things with him to Rome. The cloke brought warmth. On the end of the apostle's life in that prison in Rome a lot went through his head and he also heard of many things that happened. A lot of people had left the Gospel of the Grace of God for another Gospel", the lie! Satan was hard working to resist the truth and today he does the same. The apostle Paul stayed firm in the Work of the Lord in spite of all the difficulties, persecutions he perished. What a example for us and to think about! Today we have still a few people in the world who stand for the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God. Most people don't believe the truth and many who knew it depart from it. Don't forget that must stand for the Bema, for Christ in that day I Corinthians 3: 9-15.

2 Timothy 4 verse 14

Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:

Verse 14: The apostle Paul mentions here Alexander the coppersmith. Who was this Alexander? In I Timothy 1 verses 19 and 20 we can read about this man: Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. They Hymenaeus and Alexander spoke much evil, blashemed a lot and were against Paul and his Gospel of the Grace of God. Paul delivered them unto satan. Paul left the wrath to God because the Lord will reward Alexander according to his works. This is also what we must do if a person say much evil about us or blashemed and cursed a lot. The Lord will judge about it. Revenge belongs to Him! We read in Romans 12 verses 18-19 the following verses: If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. We have to walk in the footsteps of the apostle Paul and stand for the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God and rightly dividing the Word of truth and leave all evil over to God!! Then we can lead a quiet life in the Lord.

II Timothy 4 verse 15

Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.

Verse 15: What does this mean: of whom be thou ware also. Alexander was still in Ephesus and Timothy was the leader of the Ephesian church. The apostle Paul says here to Timothy to watch out for this man because he hath greatly withstood the words which the apostle Paul preached: The Word of God's Grace. In Acts 19 verses 33 and 34 we read also about this man Alexander. : And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people. But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. Paul warned Timothy about this man. Nowadays we have a lot of Alexander's who are evil men, say evil things and blasheme a lot and hate the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God. In this broken world such men will increase now and satan laughs about it because he can do a lot of harm but satan is not victor my brothers and sisters. He is defeated by the truth and that's why he hates the truth. So we let such persons over to God and vengeance is of Him. This is not for us to stop telling people the truth, the Gospel of the Grace of God but continue and know that we are more than conquerors in Him. Romans 8 verse 37.

2 Timothy 4 verse 16

At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

Verse 16: From this verse we can conclude very clear that Paul was 2 times in prison. Now when he wrote his last things he was for the second time in prison, in a dungeon, waiting for his execution. Again it was cold, probably also dirty and it was almost winter and he begged Timothy to come to him and to bring the cloke, the books and the parchments and also Marcus who was now profitable for the ministry. Here he writes of his standing before Ceasar the first time. He, Paul stood there alone. Every person had left him. He said he prayed to God that it may not be laid to their charge. Probably he heard there the charges brought against him.  Paul stood before this court because of the secret of the Gospel of the Grace of God. Paul didn't blame the people for this. He gave it over to God

2 Timothy 4 verse 17

Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

Verse 17: The Lord stood with Paul and strenghened him. Through God's Word he Paul was strenghened. That was something! No man stood with him to encourage him or to defend him. It looked nobody was with him except the Lord. The Lord was always with Paul. He gave him the mood to continue in preaching the Gospel of His Grace that this might be fully known and that all the Gentiles should hear it. Paul was and is the apostle of the Gentiles Romans 11 verse 13. Romans 10:17 tells  us Faith is by hearing and hearing through the Word of God. All the Gentiles might hear. The Gentiles of his time!  It is very special that we read and heard it my brothers and sisters and can make known to a world who does not know it. That we through God's power that is in working in us can reach people with this wonderful message of the Grace of God. We have to thank God for this. He Paul tells Timothy and s that he was delivered out of the mouth of the lion: the people who were against it like Ceasar and others who were the rulers of the Roman Empire.

2 Timothy 4 verse 18

And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto

His heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Verse 18: The Lord shall deliver me from every evil work. The apostle Paul was on the end of his life, of his ministry for the Lord fully convinced of the Lord that He should deliver him from every evil work and preserved Paul into His heavenly kingdom. That was and is for sure for the apostle Paul. Paul was very certain of this and so we can be very certain for this. Our future with Him in heaven would be glorious. The position of Paul and from is in Christ in the Kingdom of His Son, the heavenly Kingdom.  Read Romans 8: 31-39! We know now that Paul, Timothy, Luke and others like all our loved ones who believed in Christ  are sleeping in Christ. We just like Paul may say the same! To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen!

2 Timothy 4 verse 19

Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus

Verse 19: From this verse on we read about greetings. The last greetings Paul did to Timothy and indirect to the Body of Christ from brothers and sisters he knew very well and were his fellowlaborers like here in this verse: Salute Prisca and Aquila. Who were these persons? In Acts 18 verse 1-3 we read for the first time about them:  After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth; And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers. And in Acts 18 verse 26 we readAnd a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. Oh were more people like Aquila and Priscilla who can explain the way of God more perfectly in this world who are ignorant about the truth like Apollos! Pricilla and Aquila had a church in their own home. In I Corinthians 16 verse 19: The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.  Still Priscilla and Aquila were living in Ephesus and Paul is asking Timothy to greet them from him. In Romans 16 verse 3 and 4 remarkable words of the apostle Paul: Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles . Now Onesiphorus. Who was he? He was also a fellowlaborer of the apostle Paul . In 2 Timothy 1 verse 16-18 we read: The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain. But , when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well. Onesiphorus stood for the truth, the sound doctrine, the Gospel of the Grace of God. It was not only the Scriptures, he was also a example in walk daily with the Lord. We can follow this example and learn from it my dear brothers and sisters!!

II Timothy 4 verse 20

Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick

Verse 20: The apostle Paul tells here to Timothy and us that Erastus abode at Corinth. Who was Erastus? This brother is named in Acts 19 verse 22:So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season. Erastus served with Timothy the apostle Paul in the ministry. The apostle Paul send them here to Macedonia. We read in Romans 16 verse 23 the following verse: Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus  a brother. We read not what Erastus did at Corinth but we assume that he proclaimed there the Gospel of the Grace of God and comforted the people there. The other person here is Trophimus. Who was Trophimus. He was also a fellowlaborer of the apostle Paul. In Acts 20 verse 4 we read: And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. We read here something which is very sad: the apostle Paul left Trophimus sick at Miletum. This let us see brothers and sisters that the gift of healing was and is not working anymore! After Acts 28 the gift of healing stopped because of the complete fall of Israel Romans 11 verse 11, 25. God is not dealing with Israel as folk now in this Dispensation of Grace. Under this Dispensation of Grace it is not a quarentee that people get healed when they are sick. God can heal everyone but it is not a condition that He does this. So a lot of gifts what you can read in the first Corinthian letter we don't have this anymore. In Acts 21 verse 29 we read that Paul took Trophimus to Jerusalem: (For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) The Jews took Paul because they thought that Paul took this man Trophimus into the temple who was a Gentile.

II Timothy 4 verse 21

Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.

Verse 21: The last words to Timothy: do thy diligence to come before winter! Again the last call to Timothy, his son in the faith of whom the apostle Paul loved so very much in the Lord Jesus Christ! Timothy should make an effort to come quickly to the apostle Paul in Rome. Again Paul lived in miserable circumstances in the prison/dungeon. He had chains on his wrists and his end of life was near, very near. The execution would take very soon. We have read that he was not afraid to die physically because he would go to the glory of God, to heaven, to the Lord Jesus Christ and we brothers and sisters have also not to be afraid of dying physically because our future is the same as the apostle Paul! What a future we have. Praise God for this!!! The last greetings from fellow laborers: Eubulus, Pudens, Linus and Claudia: 3 brothers and one sister in the Lord. I think personally they lived at Rome. We don't know if Timothy came on time to see Paul the last time of his life. What we only read in Hebrews 13 verse 23 is this: Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you" It could be that Timothy was on time and then also put in prison and after a while released from prison what we see here.  This is could be also, we don't know exactly. This we leave it to our Lord Who knows everything!

II Timothy 4 verse 22

The Lord Jesus Christ, be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen

Verse 22 The apostle Paul closes here his epistle, the last epistle in the first time to Timothy and to the Body of Christ, we my brothers and sisters! The Lord Jesus Christ is always with us through His Spirit Which is living in us!! Grace be with you. Still we live under this Dispensation of Grace so this is also for us brothers and sisters, members of that Body of Christ, the heavenly Church!  Amen!
